Should I just get snow tires or wheels and tires...

I'm getting a 325i with sport package and was wondering if you guys suggest getting two blizzaks (hopefully run-flat blizzaks if they come out with them in time for winter) or two blizzaks with new wheels. Will it really make that much of a difference getting the wheels that its worth the price and looking ugly? How much will bmw charge me putting on the two tires and getting a new alignment when the first frost comes around?

Thanks!
-Mike

I personally get my snow tires mounted on shitty steel wheels and just mount the entire set in the winter. Theres no reason to subject my good wheels to the tire installers every season.. they will damage the wheels and in the end the cost of having tires mounted twice a year will exceed the cost of the cheap steel wheels. the only negative is that your car will be kind of ugly in the winter months

I agree with Mark it's actually less work to just keep a separate set of winter wheels/tires. It's too much of a hassel to mount/unmount tires 2x a year. But, if u did choose to go the route of mounting/unmounting, don't go to your dealer, just go to a local wheel/tire place and they can do it for cheaper probably (just make sure they have good soft mount machines that can mount 17" and 18" wheels without scratching them).

p.s. you don't have to get ugly steel wheels if you want to get dedicated winter wheels to use with your winter tires. there's a sticky at the top of this forum for winter wheel+tire sets... here it is

No reason to go through the winter with just steel rims, hook 'em up with some spinners.

no steel wheels on tirerack for 16" or 17" should I just goto the local tire dealer or get alloy rims? Never factored in the ~$750 that i'm going to have to spend.

they sometimes done list the steel wheels on their website for some reason, but they do sell them, i just bought a set of 16"s this winter from them. if you call them they will tell you what they have, although i'm not sure if they make 17" steel wheels, that seems a little crazy, but maybee.

if they don't, you can get some very very inexpensive 16 or 17" alloy wheels from tirerack, like ASA JH3 for 129$, moda R3 for 129$
