My lease is coming up on my 2011 335i M-Sport coupe and I'm trying to decide if it's worthwhile to buy it and flip it. I can get an extraordinary deal on it if I buy it but I'm trying to save for our wedding, and I *shouldn't* buy a car. But if I can buy, flip it, and make a little cash for the wedding fund, that would be great.

Details about the car:
2011 BMW 335i 6MT Black Sapphire, 39,000 miles
Black Sensatec Seats
Navigation
Tech package (apps, ipod, enhanced bluetooth, etc)
Sirius Satellite Radio
Heated Seats

The car has a few modifications - Procede, downpipe, Vanguard exhaust, CAI, H&R springs, and some nice 19" wheels and tires (see picture below)

The vehicle will come with the balance of the full factory warranty (ends at 50,000 miles or July 1st, 2015). It will also come with the Certified PreOwned warranty until 100,000 miles or July 1st, 2017.

This was the first new car I've ever owned/leased and I have been absolutely NEUROTIC with making sure it was clean, etc. Only detailed by Ivan @ Lustr Auto Detail and only washed by me EVER, with the 2 bucket method. This car will be as good or better, cosmetically, than a new off-the-truck vehicle.

I did some brief searching on Auto Trader and Cars.com for reference and see them listed from $30,000-$38,000. The higher priced cars were CPO and had factory warranty left (like mine).

In order for me to make it worth buying and flipping it'd have to be closer to the higher end of the scale.

Do you think it's worth it? Should I buy it or just return it? One of the other bonuses of buying it is that I don't have to pay my over mileage (I'm over by 2,800 miles), and I don't have to de-mod, potentially.

Let me know what you guys think.

Nadaguides.com has it at just over $33K; that's if you're selling it yourself. Most dealers will give you between Rough and Average trade-in value, but since you have mods I'm leaning towards Rough; that's $25.7K while Average is only $28K. Sell it yourself, you'll make more money.

Thanks. I think that anything over $30k will make it worth my while (I would definitely be selling it myself). I have all the parts to return to stock if I had to.

Probably not. I switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports in a 275 and there is definitely no extra room. It's amazing how different the same size is in two different brands. Set next to each other, the Michelin is literally 1/2" wider, both labeled 275's.

The car has been a blessing since day one. I haven't had a single problem with it besides the trim around the i-drive knob (replaced).

I think I'll pull the Procede and the downpipe off it and sell it that way - it would then be stock besides the exhaust and pass emissions anywhere.

You would most likely have to sell it yourself, not many dealers would consider that CPO to be worth anything with how you have it modded and most dealers have a hard time selling 6MT (no clue why, I was looking for so long).

I bought a non-CPO for 30k a few months back, 20k miles on it and no options (inc 3rd party warranty). You have a good shot at 32-33k with the right buyer at the right time, especially considering it is Manual.

It's a very good idea. I did the exact same thing on my last car - a black Porsche. You did not mention what the payoff is? If the payoff is $30,000 and your research shows that the same make/model is worth $35,000 (average retail price; CPO, dealer or private buyer) - do it.

1. You will have to advertise - sign on car, AutoTrader, Craigslist, etc.
2. Check with BMW Financial (or your other leasing company) to see if they will accept a third party check. If BMW Financial or other will accept a check from "BillieBob"; will they send you the Pink Slip and refund (payoff is $30,000; buyer sends $35,000; BMW sends you $5000)? You could always send the money, get the title and then transfer it to the buyer. However, the guy buying the car may need a "clean" title.
3. Check with your DMV on procedures for transferring a title. Be keenly aware of this procedure - it varies from state to state; and, DMV may make YOU pay the sales tax. You will obviously want to avoid this tax. Why? Because you are not buying the car. Check with local laws regarding the profit you might be making and how to pay taxes, etc.
4. Make sure you are familiar with with details before moving forward - leasing company, DMV, buyer's source of money (cash or finance), etc.

My situation turned out okay. I had a buyer lined up before the lease expired and he paid cash. DMV was a interesting situation - be aware.
