Exactly right. I did it on mine a few weeks back.
Generally it works ok while moving but it can struggle to pick up a decent reception on the move. The missus watched about an hour of a movie on mine with only a couple of brief signal losses, but once we started getting near our destination it was unwatchable.

If your car's build date is pre-March 07 then you wont be able to program using WiFi dude.
Why did you pay for the full version without testing it using the free version first?

To be honest i didn't know, and i didn't think i would want to code anything. It works for fault reading and clearing so that's ok.
So what do i need?

BMWhat on an iOS device is restricted to WiFi only, so we don't have the option of using a USB cable to connect to the car.
I'd suggest trying an official BMWhat WiFi dongle as there can be problems with the 3rd party ones, although I've got the exact same dongle as you and it all seems to work well with my 08 335i.

I've found BMWhat to not be 100% reliable even with later cars though as I tried reading faults with Sumil's 57 plate January 2008 car and could not get it to talk to the car at all.

Firstly I'd suggest contacting the BMWhat support guys as apparently their support is pretty good, but chances are they're either going to tell you your car is too old for iOS coding or to buy their official WiFi dongle. There's no harm in contacting them though just in case.
If you have no luck with them then your two options are: 1. Buy an Android device with a USB cable coding cable and a copy of BMWhat. 2. Use a USB coding cable and computer-based coding tools such as NCSExpert.
