Melb: Best place to purchase ATF?

Hi Guys,

Just want to get an opinion on the best place(s) to buy some ATF for a transmission service? I'm having a hard time finding anyone who sells it!

Thanks,
Fuji

Supercheap Auto/Autobarn, anywhere really.

e.g. - http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl....aspx?id=60201

Personally I went with Liqui Moly.

Most of the auto stores' websites are pretty inaccurate, outdated or lack information so just call up or visit. Lots of options.

The ZF auto transmission (GA6HP19Z) in a 335 requires LifeGuard 6 ATF which I have never seen in Autobarn or Supercheap. In Brisbane, I bought 7 litres from Motospecs. It is not cheap as it cost $257. It would be twice that price at BMW.

That's exactly why I asked! Not sure where to get Lifeguard 6 in Melb, or than the dealers

Just contacted Supercheap Auto about Lifeguard 6 and their recommendation was Nulon.

http://www.nulon.com.au/support/spec...ions-list/198/

At $54.88 per 4L bottle it's a cheaper alternative! Has anyone given it a go before?

Thanks 😂

Personally, I believe it would be very risky to go away from Lifeguard 6 ATF as that is the fluid recommended by ZF for the 335i auto. A couple hundred dollars for ATF every 4 yrs or so (based on 20,000km/yr) is cheaper than $6,000 for a new transmission. I bought Lifeguard 6 from Motospecs. I see they are in Melbourne so they may be worth a call.

Thanks mate, I'll look into the place you recommended as it's very local to me!

Nulon is rated to meet ZF Lifeguard 6 - that's why I wanted to know if anyone has tried it.also, I don't own a 335i

Your car could have the GM built steptronic auto, part no. GA6L45R.
If so you will require Dexron VI fluid and not the ZF lifeguard.
Castrol and penrite supply this fluid,as well as bmw.
Try doing a check on realoem, that should give you all the info
your looking for. All the best.

I used redline D4 ATF and its been great!

You can buy it quite cheap from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-30504...rds=redline+d4

Use the redline vehicle lubrication guide found on their website to check what fluid is required for your vehicle.

Every 100k is good practice! Or whenever the trans seal sleeve fails

Are you sure about this? I checked RealOEM and it lists ZF GA6HP19Z as the auto transmission.

Sorry about that.i thought that the ZF auto trans was exclusive to the 335i.
and that all other e90's and e92's like my e90 323i had the GM built trans.
Obviously not the case.
Anyway, good luck with the service.you could try ECS Tuning in america for some of the parts you're after. Cheers.

Last question - approximately how much ATF would I need to fill the transmission? I can't find this info published anywhere.
