- The downside is that the unit prohibits BMW from making software upgrades to your car and it doesnt seem to work with the Logic 7 soundsystem. I´ve read that some owners install the factory unit somewhere else in the car to enable BMW to do software upgrades, but that is second hand info.

I´ve seen some comments about having to install the factory unit somewhere esle in the car for them to be able to do that. True? It certainly looks like a great unit and I´m considering it.. My Nuvi can go in my old -91 Mercedes 190E //amullo

Logic 7 uses fiberoptics between the amp and HU
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1209780605 Logic 7 uses a fiber optic cable between the amp and Head Unit or Radio instead of the standard analog stereo signals used by almost all aftermarket head units. The fiber optic signal is proprietary that only the BMW head unit transmits and the L7 amp receives. The l7 amp is designed to only receive this signal No aftermarket Head Unit is designed to transmit this type of signal . It is not a standardized format like in a home entertainment system that uses some form of dolby multichannel fiberoptic signal. This is why you have to replace the amp and possibly upgrade some of the speakers . people are mostly using and ms-8 to substitute for the amp and add on amps and speakers. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin Last edited by ctuna; 07-19-2011 at 03:39 AM.. |

Well I finally got my GPS installed. I wanted a hardwired solution with no wires showing. I also wanted a mount where all I have to do is snap in/out the GPS without having to hook up any wires. Furthermore, I did not want it mounted to the windshield. here's what I came up with:
- Garmin 1695 - Garmin EcoRoute Bluetooth Diagnostics Communicator (hooked up to OBDII port) - Kuda Mounting Base 292395 - ARKON APGN-VSM Vehicle Specific Mount Adapter Plate The wiring through the dash was already there as my car originally had the BMW Garmin unit installed. All I did was cut off the existing wiring and wired it to a mini-USB plug from an old Blackberry charger. I am very pleased with the outcome. The EcoRoute HD is really cool. I have not really explored its full functionality yet...time for a road trip!

sorry, i wanted to install a good navigation system on my 2006 e90. i liked what the bmw garmin did so its a clean install. i dont want to install like an indash system where you have the cd player and climate control, cuz i m not sure if that will give me problems later on. I tried looking for instruction on how to install it myself but couldn't find a good step by step one. so i guess i want to install a system like BMW Garmin but prob a different gps that has better maps and other bells and whisltes. Please help.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473073&highlight=navigation Then decide whether or not you want the BMW/Garmin unit or you just want a standalone. Either way you can hard-wire it like I have done (see above).

I am sure what i want is something like yours, which is hardwired so that it looks clean, and i would rather have some other the best navigation system out in the market which i can mount on the dashbord. you said u already had it installed via bmw so i was wondering if someone did that and i think someone has but the instruction are not that clear. so that is waht i m looking for and trying not to spend 1000 through bmw dealer. the indash one is tricky poeple talking about logic 7 if you have that it will cause issue bla bla i dont even wanna get into that cuz i have no idea what that even means. i have done few install's myself on my car so i think i can do this too but only if the instruction are good. Thanks for all your help |
