Just for an update, I've had the intercooler and downpipes fitted today and I must say I am very impressed with the performance increase I can feel! Only downside is the tiny bit of wastegate rattle I had before is now a bit more prominent. Gonna attempt the wastegate fix next week!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to update us, I'm glad you're enjoying the downpipes

No problem, mechanic said the install was tricky but the downpipes fitted great! Sounds alot more like a turbo should now!!

Yea the intercooler was a rush buy but it seems to be doing its job. I took it for a good hard drive earlier and the power was consistent. Before it slowed down after 10 minutes of hard driving! Shall post a video as soon as I get chance.

Thanks for picking up our intercooler and posting your feedback Luke! With your particular modifications, I think you will be very pleased with our cooler. Looking forward to the video footage!

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words and for coming to our event! It was quite a long day but it seems like everyone enjoyed it!

The stock connections are restrictive but not enough to make those upgrades negligible. The stock inlet is a slight restriction, nothing you'll notice unless you got an intercooler without the restriction and even then it would likely only be a difference on paper and not on the street.
Thanks for chiming in!

The end tanks are fabulous, the core and build construction very good. The only caveat vs any other 5" intercooler is the factory connectors. As far as I'm concerned that's hear nor there for anybody with stock turbos and not trying to break records. If it was an absolute choke it be one thing (say with factory connectors you were limited to 370whp) but having seen cars with FACTORY intercoolers pushing over 400whp with ethanol or meth I know for a fact this is not the case until somewhere well past the 400whp mark (yes I know they have to be pushed harder). If you want more than that or need the ultimate intercooler you should not be using a 5" intercooler anyway. Otherwise this whole connector sh*t is right up there with the DCI vs stock airbox argument. For many people putting those monstrosities and noise in the engine bay isn't worth the noise, looks or 10whp and 0.09sec/1mph 1/4 mile difference. Whatever you couldn't beat before a DCI is still going to spank you after you put it on. Whatever you couldn't beat with a good 5" intercooler with factory connectors you aren't going to beat with a 2.25 or 2.5" piping. You ass-o-meter certainty can't feel 10whp on any car making more than 100whp or so.

I've logged stock and mishimoto intercoolers extensively and it consistently about 22-25 deg cooler than stock on a 3rd gear log pulls at typical N54 shift point (6200 rpm) and 30 deg by redline (7000 rpm for kicks). Trend only continues to widen halfway into 4th gear but I try not to go to jail often so I don't have much data outside of single 3rd gear pulls. I know during 75 deg weather testing the one time I decided to log part of 4th the Mishimoto was cooler at 5900 rpm in 4th gear than the stock intercooler was in 3rd. It may not be the king kong of intercoolers but it allows me to sleep better at night running an ethanol tune. All I have is a Mishimoto IC, drop in K&N filter and tune via BB flash. I can't wait to get a new clutch in so I can dyno and shut people up once and for all about what you NEED to have to make decent hp. So far I've spent $60 on a K&N filter, $180 on a BT cable, $600 on the intercooler, E85 right now here is $1.79 per gallon and it looks completely stock...but it doesn't run like stock.

This is fantastic feedback Stan, thank you very much for posting your results. Your temperatures line up pretty well with what we saw on our mildly modified test vehicle, 20°F+ average drops with a maximum drop around 35°F.

Thanks
-John

I just give my car a bit of stick off a roundabout and it spluttered and then went really slow, as if a in limp mode, thought the engine had blown. I turned it off then back on and it was ok again. Any ideas what could cause this or if it would be anything to do with my recent mods?

Sounds like a misfire, do your spark plugs have more then 25,000 miles on them, if so it might be time to replace them.

Best bet is to pull the codes though.

Ok thanks, I'll check my jb4 and see if I have any codes. Not sure about the spark plugs, only owned the car for the last 6 months, which spark plugs are best for a tuned 335i?

I've taken it to a bmw specialist and he can't see anything wrong, the jb4 won't let him read any codes on his machine! What a pain. The misfire is barely noticeable now. It starts fine and drives fine and feels fine on power so not sure what it was all about now.

Put jb4 on map 0 so the tech can read codes.

This happens to most people that have upgraded intercooler and dp's. Don't worry it will be spark plugs or coils most likely. Nothing major.

Thanks brule. Just seen your reply sorry. Oh I didn't realise map 0 would allow him to read codes. I'll give that a go thanks. It's back in next week or week after for oil service, spark plugs and walnut blast so hopefully that'll cure it then!

I bought and installed a Mishimoto IC almost immediately after I bought my 335i over a year ago and have no complaints. The only other "performance" related things that I did to the engine were to install a K&N filter, install new plugs/coils, cleaned the intake valves and had a coder install the Alpina B3 AT flash.

I run the Mishimoto w/the Cobb Stage 1 Sport + FMIC map and I've got more than enough power/acceleration to make me happy w/o overwhelming the OEM Sport Springs, Koni FSDs and Michelin PSS tires that I also put on the car.

I've never dyno'd it but the car is motorcycle fast and accelerates from 80 to 120 in what seems like the blink of an eye. More than enough power for me for street/highway use and I couldn't be happier w/it the way it is, which is why I haven't bothered to do anything else to try to make it go faster.

The noted current manufacturing issues notwithstanding...I am trying to decide between the Mishimoto and the Cobb FMIC. Is there really $300 worth of difference? I am not hardcore and don't plan on tracking my E93, just ready to start adding some performance parts. thx!
