Drag race observations and 2nd Gear crunch
So took my 2008 335xi Manual to sonoma raceway last night for bracket racing. I have the car tuned by JZW and 7" IC. Somewhere around 375-400HP running E40.
I ran best time of 12.7 with a 60' best of 1.91. One one of my best launches when I did my 1st to 2nd shift I crunched into 2nd and lost .5 sec. I have never had this happen. I run Amsoil Gear oil in it and it shifts much nicer than stock normally. I am assuming I may have not had clutch all the way down or for long enough given shifting at 6k rpm. Is shifting the shifter too fast or too slow more of the cause of this. I think I would have hit 12.6 or even 12.5 had I not done this. I found that staging lights then bringing up RPM to 4k then slowly letting out the clutch. I have a 550 clutch in car and it does tend to grab more than the stock clutch. I have stock exhaust and JZW feels there is more in the tune he can do but I really dont want to mess with the exhaust. On the x drive you have to drop the sub frame to get out the down pipes. But this drag racing is addictive.. I was blowing the doors off many Newer cameros and Mustangs that had drag slicks. A lot of people were impressed how quick the car is ![]() |

ThT seems pretty nice, could be improved i guess.
I had a saab yesteryears so recognize jzw. Think he has the fastest saab. Anyway, there are better options than amsoil, motul being that...research.
