Just sayin... unlrelated failures, fine, but you got caught trying to get something covered that may not have failed under stock conditions.
We all paid (especially those buying new BMWs) absurd amounts of money for our cars. These are performance machines, and should be able to handle quality bolt-on mods. BMW can be a real pain in the ass with this stuff and it's not right to do to someone who spent 40-50k on a car.

For what it is worth, I have a 2010 and blew my charge pipe too. It broke the lock ring tabs off and shot the metal ring beside the transmission. I replaced it with a metal unit without a second thought and was glad to be rid of the plastic piece of crap.

In defense of BMW, we purchased a car that was designed to have a maximum of 6 psi of pressure on the charge pipe. A Cobb/JB/Procede will raise the max pressure to 18+ on most maps ... that is 3 times the max design pressure and you are mad because it eventually breaks?

I think we are pretty lucky that the charge pipe is about the only part that we need to change to allow us to triple the max boost pressure.

Garage List
Stock boost is 8.9 psi not 6 but your point is valid.

I know this thread is very old and got bumped but OP should have never gone in for warranty on a charge pipe what the mods he put on caused it to blow. Should have just bought an aftermarket CP and called it a day. Glad that's the first thing I bought with my JB4.

Disagree... they designed it to operate STOCK. They have no reason to make it strong enough to support 400whp... 500whp... etc. Just the stock 300 chp.

Do what you want to your car (I have), just don't go crying to BMW asking them to fix stuff that you caused to break.

i think the old part number ones were tougher. old ones are two piece with a flexible tube at the inlet. newer ones are one solid piece

Someone broke it with an almost new 135i F20 of 2014 with just a JB4 on map 5 so...

First you bump a 3 year old post than say something uninformed like that?

The car is designed to run stock not twice the amount of boost it came with from the factory. If everything was completely over-designed like that the car would weigh 4000 lbs.

Didn't notice the date of this thread. I just got my car back on the road after temporary losing my license lol. It just sucks that some people have shitty service reps. My rep from BMW Oyster Bay in NY told me that they like to see when people beat on the cars. That's what they were designed for!

No they can. I always brought it to my local shop and had my codes cleared before bringing it in for work till my warranty expired.
