Cobb Tune Comparisons

There has been a lot of discussion lately regarding the various tuners (and their methods) for the N54 platform. Not really trying to add fuel to the fire, but I would like to share some logs from the past year.

I have been lucky enough to have ran maps from Jake, Dzenno, and Wedge on my 135i. They are all great to work with and it really just comes down to personal preference. Needless to say, they have differences in how they approach tuning.

Not sure which iterations/versions these are unfortunately, but I'm positive that these are not the starters. FBO stock turbo 135i on e50...

Wedge

Sorry if these aren't the best logs, they'll have to do. My car is currently getting prepped for surgery... Inlets are sitting around and VTT S2+s are on the way

The Wedge log was version 3 iteration which was prematurely still being dialed in which was never completed.

Good post though

Thanks for the details, Buraq!

If memory serves me right, the map from Jake was the 5th iteration.

I believe this is as apples-to-apples as I can get (barring the fact that some maps are still being dialed in). It's the same car, set-up, and fuel with relatively consistent weather.

Please, you want to compare a single gear pull to a multi gear pull on a map that wasn't even finished?

I have to admit, you're right because it's not important anymore.

Are you sure you are looking at the right log? Looks like boost was off radar for a good portion of the pull and timing took an abrupt drop at around 4200rpm. Looks the worse of the 3.

In defense of all the tuners, unless it is a final revision it is pretty pointless to compare.

Probably best practice to wait and post the latest and finalized tunes. (Including either single gear pulls or multi gear depending on the availability).

It's going to be a war without a true apples to apples and not all folks can decipher the differences between the logs.

That was the plan actually. Unfortunately, my turbos are done for and I'm just waiting on new VTT units to arrive.

I miss the days of Jb3 and PROcede tuner wars. So this almost doesn't bother me, personally.

I just hate seeing other fellow vendors caught up in the crossfire trying to defend themselves for situations that really merit no defense as the material given is not 100%.

Is a small timing correction in one cylinder on an occasional pull really something to be concerned about?

There's hardly any difference in their approach on these logs. Boost levels are different otherwise they are all thinking alike.

Hi bokyo1987 let us know if you need anything reviewed/adjusted we'd be happy to help. It is nice to see comparisons and at the end of the day it really comes down to what ends up working best for anyone out there. ATR/ATP are great tools as well as MHD's new offering and there are plenty of tuners out there to help with custom tuning this or any other motor.

For those looking to cause arguments and forum drama we hope you understand we won't participate in those discussions or entertain them at all. Our customers requests/emails/support come first and that is where our focus remains.

Regards,
PTF

Maybe when you get your new turbos you can post some more logs. Inlets and new turbos should really make the car roar!

Inlets are doing so well on so many cars that it honestly is a shame it took this long for this hardware mod to come to this platform.

Today, it is the first modification along with the intercooler that we suggest for any N54 starting down the modification lane. Then, if you've got E85 to go with that you'll be able to hang really close with pretty much any FBO stock turbo N54 especially the ones with stock inlets that may have invested quite a bit more money in their mods over the past while.

True story, I plan to pick up another 335 in the next couple months. First mods will be inlets, intakes, tune and intercooler.

Are there several inlet options of reasonable price? If purchased for stock turbos, would they transfer seamlessly to upgraded turbos? Is there a Cobb OTS map to take advantage of them or would it require an etune?
