335i versus SV6

Hey all.

How do you all think a stock (and well maintained) manual E90 335i would perform in both 0-100 and in-gear acceleration against a new 2014 SV6 auto? The SV6 has 210kW and 350Nm against the 335i's 225kW and 400Nm and is slightly heavier (and reaches its figures higher in the RPM range. But with it being newer (5,000 km against 150,000km) it would be an interesting match up I would have thought? I know the the factory performance figures should make it a clear cut victory to the BMW, but I wonder whether the 335i would still have the legs?

That's the kind of answer I like! The GF's father (who just bought the Holden) makes the odd play for a reaction. I never react of course, but it did get me wondering. And, to be fair to the Holden, it does pull pretty well.

I have a '14 SV6 Sportwagon as the family car - I can say that it would not stand much of a chance against a 335i.

And I am still trying to comprehend why you have a 335i and NO TUNE!!

We have the 335i touring as our daily driver/family car. I think for the uninitiated they feel very quick stock particularly 0-80. After that I find it runs out of puff.

Though must admit after driving my cousins stock 135i N54 with JB4 the additional torque is impressive.

I agree the tune is a must after you try it.

Ha ha it's definitely on the horizon! I'm deciding whether to buy a Cobb or have a local tuner do a custom tune. I would be looking at a stage 1 aggressive with Cobb - apparently that gets you 290 kW and 540 Nm. Torque Performance here in Auckland does a before and after dyno printout and a tune getting you 270kW and 500Nm. I kind of like the idea of the tune being fully customised, but it's a little down on power.

The stock N54 feels pretty decent in the mid range - that's what I like about it. But I'm pretty keen on experiencing a 30% uplift in torque with a tune.

335i > sv6 - 110% win

SS runs stock 13.1 - 13.7 ?
335i with only cobb runs high 12's

335i with all bolt ons with a splash of e85 is a decent street car

Reading a few reviews of the new VF SS-V manual, the 0-100 figures are around 5.6 seconds on a V-Box, which is apparently what a stock 335i achieves. But then as everyone says, there have been some magazines achieve sub-5 seconds to 100kph for the BMW which I can believe given the conservative power ratings. I'd have expected more from a brand new 270kW / 530Nm V8.

We have been over this before, they arent fast, too heavy and too lazy. I would be disappointed if you didnt beat a stock SS comfortably. Perhaps if your in a manual it will be a bit closer. I raced a 420whp 6.0l v8 and was not impressed, he assed his start but from 60 or 70 all the way to 230 he didnt get infront of me. And im stock, he refused to race a mate with a tuned n54 for obvious reasons lol.

Good to know. I've not been in one or raced one before so I was curious. Cobb V3 is definitely on the list anyway.

I beat a P plate SV6 before my Jb4 had unlocked boost, and he even had a head start.

Tell your girl friends father that you don't race unless it's for pink slips.

SV6s are faster than your entry level euro cars (think 318i) or Camrys... And that's about it.

Even the V6 Aurions would give it a run for its money at in gear acceleration (0-100 is worser due to FWD)

Also I saw a Mazda 3 mps smoke a older generation HSV lol

If you had a bootful of concrete you would still beat him!

I had a 3.6L calais VLine sportwagon before my 335i and it wasn't fast by any means (even though the dickheads at work loved it and were saying shit like aww those V6's still go hard... I was like ahh yeah...)

This is all good to hear I have to say. I think I've just become too used to the stock power level and give it less credit than I should.

I put my jb4 on stock tune once due to adjusting something..
