Okay guys, who is using this instead of "at the pump Sunoco" and if you are getting VP racing where are you getting it and how much are you paying?

Thanks

Found a pretty good discussion on Toluene octane boosting also. Anyone with expertise please comment. The author seems to think Toluene is the best thing since sliced bread.

I have been buying it at the 76 station at Barrington and Pico. Figure around $7/gal. It is a bit cheaper at the pump at WSIR but that does not help unless you live out there or are already there.

You could always get a 55gal drum delivered to your house. F&L, VP, 76, Trick, and Torco are all available in SoCal.

There are 2 other stations in Brentwood...one at the corner of Bundy and San Vicente (also a 76) and the other on 4th St (I think) just north of San Vicente.

There's a 76 on Arroyo in Pasadena right before the start of the freeway that carries it. Yeah, six-something a gallon, 101 octane.

They have advertised 101 at the 76 on Arroyo in Pasadena, just stopped by there tonight - not sure who's getting paid for marketing of if they're lying.

Here's a question...what is the max octane we think our cars can utilize? Somehow I suspect that so long as we get our octane mix at or above 93 the car should run its max map. Right???

No. It can only use that 93 octane .. All the High octane does is give you more oxgyen in their formula. Car love High contain of O2 because so it can breath easier. having 93 octane in your car does not mean you are utilized it high octane max on procede v2. you just mean that you are running slidely better than 91 octane. if you want to max utilize on procede v2.0.2, you can empty your gas tank .. fill it with vp109 octane (100%). you will see the different because higher the octane gas. The higher the Boost will get. Also you will pee your pant because it is super fast. lol Unfornuately, everything have it dowside to that. You will eventually blow up your engine if you keeping doing it for long time. You also pay Huges Price for it in gas money.. lol As Far i know.. the highest octane would be vp109 with unleaded.. DO NOT USE LEADED GAS . IT WILL KILL YOUR CAT AND O2 SENSOR.

Whoa...easy does it...You just made a bunch of assertions that I don't think are quite accurate. Let's break this down one idea at a time.

Higher oxygen content does not allow the car to breathe easier. The car's ability to breathe is limited by restrictions in the intake and exhaust tracts. It is limited by the diameter of the pipes, by the size of the valves, by how far they open and how long they stay open, etc. An engine can only flow its max flow regardless of how much oxygen is in the fuel. Are you trying to say that the higher octane burns more efficiently? If so, that is true but is also why it resists pre-detonation better.

Likewise, the car is limited as to how much boost it can make. The turbos have a max. You could put 1,000 octane in the car and it would still make only as much boost as the turbos could. Even with Procede/JB2/...there is a maximum boost allowable after which point the wastegates open. All higher octane allows you to do is to run max boost longer before the ECU detects detonation and starts pulling boost back from max. In theory it also allows you to run higher boost levels on the same block. Just adding race gas to your car without changing anything else will NOT automatically raise the boost.

Finally I would love to see something backing-up the claim that if you use 100 or 109 for a long time you will blow up your engine. I suspect the oil companies might take exception to that! In fact just the opposite might well be true. Unless because of the race gas you are running all the time at WOT and redline...

Octane is a measure of the gasoline's resistance to pre-detonation. The higher the number the more it resists knocking and pinging. The car has maximum values that it is able to achieve...max afr, max timing advance (both spark and cam) and max boost. The car will always try to run at those maximum settings. If detonation is sensed or if environmental conditions suggest that detonation is likely, the computer will back those settings down to a safe level. The only thing you accomplish by adding higher octane fuel is allowing the car to run those maximum values longer. It will NOT permit the car to go above and beyond its maximum no matter what piggyback you have.

It seems to me that you got your information from

http://vpracingfuels.com/spec/TechBu...Sportfuels.doc

Is that right? I read their literature to suggest that the highest octane you should use in our cars would probably be their 100.

Thanks for the info Charlie. I drive home on the 60 everyday so I stopped by there yesterday. They have 100 at the pump for 6.99. They also sell lots of different race fuels including 103 and 109 in unleaded in 5 gallon cans. The 109 is 49.99 plus tax so comes out to 53.xx or about 10.70 a gallon. That is pretty good considering you can make a 95 Octane mix for about 4.50 a gallon for you JB2R owners.
