help fitting wheels on xi

hey guys, im new to the forum but not new to BMW. All my previous BMW have been "i" models. Recently bought an e60 535xi. I want to put style 172 (550i sport wheels), but ive heard xi models must run squared set up because of all wheel drive. Is this true? If it is, what are my options if i want to put these wheels on? Shaving them is out of the question, it will require me to shave more than 15mm which is not safe. Thanks for the help!

Not true. Just make sure the outer diameter match front to rear

BMW originally equipped E60 535xi Sedans with staggered sets. Shouldn't be a problem.

18"x8.5"/9.5"
Front: 245/40-18
Rear: 275/35-18

19"x8.5"/9.5"
Front: 245/35-19
Rear: 275/30-19

This all depends on if the transfer box contains an open diff. Basically if the output shafts to the front wheels and the back wheels cannot turn at different speeds (ie they are locked together) then running different size tyres or different size wheels / tyres means that one shaft must run at a different speed due to the different rotational distances the front / back wheels make across the road.
