8" underseat subs
Hi, I have a 2009 335i e93 conv. I have the HIFI factory stereo. I have a Jl Audio Xd600/6 running Helix Match components up front, rear stock speakers, and I had Earthquake SWSXi 2 ohm 8" subs under the seats ( which sounded horrible) but I blew them. I also have a 10" sealed Kicker box in trunk running off a Jl Audio XD600/1 mono amp. A technic harness was used to install. Anyway I am having a hard time trying to find reasonably priced 8" subs to replace my blown Earthquakes. I can't find Jehnerts or anywhere in USA. The Kicker ssmb8 are discontinued. Does anyone know where I can purchase good quality 8" subs here in the US?
Thank you |

Email Don at Unexpected Creations. He is one of the few U.S. distributors for them. Excellent to work with. Great customer service.
don@unexpectedcreations.com There is also a set for sale in the F30 for sale section. |

Who advised you to go with that set up to begin with? It is completely wrong. The earthquakes are only to be used if you do not have a trunk sub and if you want to have a compromise between mediocre bass and mediocre mid base. In your case they should have been high passed at the amp to cut out the sub woofer frequencies, which would leave you with crappy mid bass frequencies. What a waste, I see so many people making the same mistake, but no matter how much I and others talk about it, we obviously cannot stop it from happening?

Jehnert XE200 Flatline install
Hi, I have a 2009 335i e93 conv. I have the HIFI factory stereo. I have a Jl Audio Xd600/6 running Helix Match components up front, rear stock speakers, and I had Earthquake SWSXi 2 ohm 8" subs under the seats ( which sounded horrible) but I blew them. I also have a 10" sealed Kicker box in trunk running off a Jl Audio XD600/1 mono amp. A technic harness was used to install as well as the Technic sub wire connectors / adapter rings for Earthquakes. Anyway I am thinking about getting the Jehnert XE200 Flatline 8" underseat subs.
How would an installer install the Jehnert XE200 Flatline 8" subs? Meaning do they need a filter or crossover on the subs? How do I set the JL Audio crossover on the xd600/6 ( they would be on channels 5/6) ? Thanks, Gen |

Nobody advised me to get the Earthquakes . I made the bad decision myself. Do you think it will be a night and day difference in my sound system with the jehnerts installed?

I think they will be fine at 170 to 180 low passed the way most people
run them with a JL xd series. The range is listed at 40 to 4k . There are many drop in's now but Xe-200's are the best for sound accuracy IMHOP. Last edited by ctuna; 08-22-2015 at 04:59 PM.. |

You normally want to shoot for a 70-80Hz crossover point between the subwoofers and the midbass speakers. Since the Jehnerts play some pretty good mid-bass, and since they are up front, you want them to play as low as possible, while still being able to get loud and play with accuracy, detail and without (much) distortion. Then you have the trunk sub "pick-up" from there on down. From what I have read, I think they can easily handle 60Hz with a steep 4th order slope (24 dB/oct), and that's where I would high-pass them if I just had the one shot at it. Then you set the low-pass on the sub amp at 60Hz and you should have a fairly smooth transition. You will also want to try reversing the speaker leads going to the sub, because that will probably put them in a better phase-relationship and eliminate some cancellations.
