Tri-Ace Tires???
Hi everyone,
I am going with a 245/40/18 and a 285/35/18 setup, and the 285 is a bit limited on the tires available, there are some good tires available, just a bit more then I want to spend. The tri-ace tires are from china, but I have heard they are some of the best from that area, the price is very good. I know you get what you pay for and all, but I had achilies tires on my last car that were even cheaper, and i thought they were actually great for the money, and even felt better then the set of falken tires i had previously. I was then told the Tri-ace Carreras are much better than the achilies. I know you all are going to say spend more, the next step is HTR III by Sumitumos and those are very old design tire and not great as well. |

Why making all the extra effort of having 285 tires if you are going to put random junk. Wasn't the goal of running extra wide tires to get better grip, and do you really expect to be satisfied with cheap noname tires ??

This is a great point. Tread compound makes a bigger difference in traction than the width does. In fact a wider tire in the same diameter and aspect ratio doesn't give you much more longitudinal traction but increases your lateral traction. I would go with 275 width rears in a quality tire. Not sure why people love to cheap out on one of the most important parts of the car.
