Sold My 2009 BMW 335d

So after debating if I should keep/sell/trade-in my CPO 2009 BMW 335d, I decided to trade it in. My 6 year/100k miles warranty ended in August. They did a CBU cleaning of the intake manifold and swirl valves. I thought everything will be good for at least 40k miles. Then the SES lit up (P200A) code. The dealership installed a new bracket on an actuator and the car ran great for 100 miles. Then the SES light came back. Dealership told me that they need to replace the actuator, which costs $1300 plus labor. This was the 13th time I brought this car in for service. With all the trips to the dealership and with no more warranty, I decided to trade-in the car. I didn't want to deal with all the problems and headaches. Going to the dealership became routine for me, so while under warranty, I dealt with it, but now that the warranty ended, there is now way I am spending any money on this car.

So after taking everything under consideration, I traded-in the car for a 2015 Acura TLX, FWD, V6 with the Advance Package.

Will miss the torque of the 335d and how fun it was to drive, but I will not miss the trips to the dealership every time the SES light lit up.

With my 335d, I have to go to the dealer for SES many times between oil change. Oil change is once a year.

With the Acura, you will likely not see the SA until past 100 K miles.

I've always been a Honda/Acura guy. Hard to argue with a quarter million trouble-free miles! They may not have the torque but the HP is close and they're built to spend their lives at redline. It's just a different kind of fun. Enjoy!

Being a brand new model, I also purchased the extended warranty for $1200 that covers everything for a total of 6 year/120k miles, with free lost key replacement for 5 years and free tire and rim replacement.

Probably won't need it, but at least I won't have to worry about it when the 4 year/50k miles regular warranty expires. I plan on keeping this car for 6 years and I do about 20k miles a year, so I should be fully covered.

I heard that just to replace a lost key is about $500.

I will miss the 265 HP with 425 lbs/ft of torque. The TLX V6 only has 290 HP with 268 lbs/ft of torque. It's not a 335d, but it will have to do.

I also have a 09 but its had no issues. Currently has 83000 miles, still averages 32 mpg and has no loss of power. There are some things I do that possibly may help prevent cbu.

1. We dont use the car for short in town trips. Most of the miles are from my wifes 70 mile per day commute and the return trip includes a 4 mile lone 7% grade which I encourage her to pull as high a speed as she can get away with.

2. I use an additive to help keep the injectors clean with every tank. Clean injectors=more complete combustion=less carbon.

3. I change the oil every 6K miles. Two career bmw mechanics that I know who own their own indy shops have advised me to do this. They reasoning is that cbu is created when the oil mist from the pcv valve is baked by the hot exhaust from the egr valve. The more contaminates that are in the oil the greater the cbu......clean oil makes less cbu when baked by the egr than dirtier oil.

4. We drive it a lot and drive it hard. We bought it in May of 2013 with 33000 miles....it now has 83000 miles

The above may or may not mean anything depending on who you talk to, however the lack of cbu issues with my car has made it a pleasure to own.

It's good to hear that you are having no issues with your 335d. If I had no issues, I would definitely keep the car.

I bought mine CPO in 2012 with 46k miles. I drive about 90 miles a day, mostly highway miles at 80-85 mph. Very little city driving.

I did my oil change every 7500 miles.

I did not add any diesel additive during every fill-up since it was still under CPO warranty. I was going to start using diesel additive after the warranty expired, but I was not going to spend $3000 to replace a faulty actuator. So I decided to put that money towards the TXL.

I dont blame you although I would have a hard time going back to a fwd car with half the torque. I would prob look for a low mileage cpo gas bmw or benz. I did have two Q45's in the past that both went past 200K without issues, but the Q is history.
