v2 connection help?
2nd time trying to get connectivity using USB serial. Tried with the R Shack and now with a different cable. Same issue cannot open COM port. Have read the posts and went through everything again. Car works fine with bypass plugs.
Checked COM ports via device manager beforehand. Connected procede unit and usb serial cable. Turned on ignition. Open Procede software. Set to COM port and still no luck. Also tried open Procede software first and then turning on ignition. No luck either connecting. Is it just me or have others had problems here with connecting? I've spent a few nights with this. Procede is drawing power as first time I just left the Procede unit connected overnight to go at it the next day and my battery was dead next morning. During the evening, while trying to connect and turning ignition on - I did get a battery light on the dash. Second go around this evening - if I leave the unit connected for a whiles, also get the battery light on the dash. This time though I will remove the unit and put the bypass plugs on so it doesn't drain the battery and I at least can drive in the morning. So I suspect unit is drawing power. But no luck with the connection despite 2 different cables. Is there any other way that to update the unit? Any help much appreciated. |

With all those trial and errors, you would need to charge your battery to get the correct amps back into the battery, I don't think driving around and letting the alternator charge it back up will do the trick for you...Tommorrow charge the battery for a couple of hours....Also did u connect the V2 to the switched power instead of the fuse?

Check whether the usb cable manufacturers have a driver for you to install. I got mine pretty cheap off of NewEgg and it didn't have a driver shipped with it... nor did it mention it on the packaging. I visited the cable's site, found some driver associated with the cable, and everything worked fine after I installed the driver.

No luck still. I think Procede serial connector is dead. I noticed that my thinkpad docking station has serial port and connected it directly. Nada. Cannot open COM port still. WTF.
Am aware of the press start twice to turn on ignition. Yes switched power over from the fuse- in fact that is what caused my battery to drain dead the first go around and drains it even now if you leave the procede unit connected. Tried COM 3, hell tried a bunch of open COM #s. No luck there. Tried another cable just for fun. No luck either. Am I the only one with this connection problem? Shiv can I just send you all the unit and have you guys update it for me? This has been a real pain in the ass as I've made a few trips to Micro Center, Radio Shack, Best Buy already. Next time can you all just do USB to USB? And have another means to power the unit on so we can update without connecting to the car? |

I had problems connecting but once I got the driver for the Best Buy serial -> USB adapter installed everything went fine.
I know this doesnt apply to you using your serial port in your laptop, but keep in mind that if you plug the USB cable into different USB ports in your computer they will have different COM numbers. I have already spoken to someone who didnt know that. So if you get it to work once on COM 4 and then plug it into a different USB port it will not longer work on COM 4.

Thanks Sniz. Yes I've been pretty diligent with checking device manager to make sure COM # is right. I've tried different USB connectors on my laptop and the docking station too. Everything else is fine but updating the unit. I hope the unit doesn't drain my battery dry after this gets resolved but we'll have to see.
If anybody lives in Detroit MI area and was able to get this COM connection working - send me PM. I'll gladly pay you to connect my Procede unit to your Procede harness just to update my Procede unit. ARGH! |

Its because the USB port you are using has been designated COM 8. On my Toshiba Tecra laptop I was using COM 11, my new Toshiba I'm using COM 5, but this thing has 4 USB ports so I need to pay attention to which one i'm using.
