Hi,

Has anyone ever tried these before?
I'm completely hopeless when it comes to specs about car audio... but before I upgrade I'm trying to do some research.

I was checking prices for IFBMW-S (still not sure what to get if I go this route) and I came across this Ebay ad.

Any thoughts? Claim to be better than BSW (which I'm also debating on due to simplicity)

Price 700 CAD which isn't to bad considering a set of the Focals are about the same price.

Not looking for anything extreme, I just want to enjoy my music as I'm driving more often these days.

I have Stock L7 in my system, but I'm looking for a bit more base and clarity. I installed a sub a few months ago but still not to happy.

Well, that was an interesting read (the ebay page...)! He makes it clear it is a "DIY" kit so some of the rough edges and the competitor bashing can be looked past I guess.

I personally would not recommend any such speaker upgrade kits because:

1.) The OEM amp is the weakest link in the chain and without fixing that it will never have the capability to sound great. The volume of aftermarket 4ohm speakers will be lower than the volume with the OEM speakers! Also, this particular version of the Logic 7 processing is terrible and no matter what you do it will never sound great.

2.) The only speakers that need replacing are in front of (and maybe below) you, so we are only talking about two mids and two tweeters that really need to be changed. The center can be left out and it will sound better without it.

If you are really the "DIY" type, you can very easily find out the exact drivers that are being used and with a little bit of research purchase everything yourself for a fraction of the cost.

One thing you may want to try is to add a tweeter to the existing center midrange speaker. It is pretty much plug and play (the tweeter goes into the air vent next to the mid). The improvement in staging and top end sparkle is very good, for only about $60 or $70. That's called "making the OEM system sound the way it was originally intended to sound before someone forgot to include the center tweeter in the final design". Beyond that, you are talking big bucks to get better sound (above 200Hz).

Another great improvement is to add an amp to the underseats. Again, very cheap and highly effective. About 2x75W should do it.
