Need help with my Aux connector

Ok so I went to radio shack and got two connector heads for the car. Now I seem to be having a problem, because nobody has a really short wire I decided to maybe try to make one. Of this length.

So it would look nice and neat in the Console area.

I followed this diagram

Now it works and it sounds pretty good. Now I have one problem, I get a lot of line noise every now and then. I think I need a shield cable because I did not use one. Anybody have some know how of what I did wrong. I connected one wire to the tip and the other wire to the ring. No connection for the shield part.
