Advice needed. Bmw e90 335d pre LCI v 335d LCI

Hello all. Im new to this forum so dont know if this is the right section.

I was looking to buy a e90 335d pre lci and was going to so a LCI conversion. But just today i was talking to my dads friend who is a trader and sells only e46/e90s.
While talking to him he mentioned that the pre lci 335d has alot of issues such as turbo failure, turbo actuators, gearbox and also the chain but he did say that is rare. However he does say that the lci 335d is newer and has better parts than the pre lci.

I was hoping someone could clarify if he is correct. What problems if any are you getting in your 335ds lci or pre lci. I assumed they were the same apart from the exterior and sat nav.

Just to add would it be cheaper to do a lci upgrade or buy a standard 335d.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

As far as I'm aware; the pre and post LCI are both the same mechanically.

As for whether it's cheaper by an LCI than upgrade; I would guess a full upgrade including front, rear, headlights, mirrors and CIC would be much more than buying an LCI car.

That said; you could probably swap the bonnet and front bumper for around £5-700 and most wouldn't know the difference.

Thanks . What are the main differences between cic and ccc. Is it just the display and interface?

CIC is leagues ahead of CCC.

Have a look here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDrive

If you go for an early LCI; you can retrofit a Combox for £200ish which gives Bluetooth Audio, Web Radio, Internet access amongst others.

Really? Only £200 to retrofit a combox, I thought it was double that?

It depends what you have already. I had a TCU so all I needed to do was swap the TCU, fit some wiring to the armrest then code.

That's all DIY. If you have it retrofitted you are probably £300-£400.

I would say that's still worth it having made the upgrade.

Thanks, I'll send you a pm shortly. Lastly, did you have to do any coding Inc upgrade or downgrade the cic software?

I've owned two pre-LCIs and no issues at all. I'd prefer a high spec pre LCI any day (vs lower spec LCI)

The 335d's are all M57 engined cars, which is generally a solid reliable engine

There are so many differences between pre LCI and LCI that you would be really wasting your money to do the upgrade yourself. You might make some of the obvious changes but then anyone who knows anything about the cars would see through it. Just save up and buy an actual LCI, the early ones are almost 8 years old now, so prices must be coming down.

Just a quick update. Ice purchased a 2008 on a 58 335d LCI . Fully loaded. Really happy with it apart from my cornering lights failure warning and seems its bit loud on idle.
