ISTA/D disabling injectors

I think I have a misfire so I fired up ISTA/D last night to have a play and see if there was anything logged.

I noticed that there is an injector disable option and tried this out.

On cylinder 1 it did nothing, so either it didn't work or that cylinder is really dead
On 2 and 3 the engine started vibrating a fair amount.
On 4,5,6 it reported ERROR_ECU_REQUEST_OUT_OF_RANGE.

Has anyone tried this before?

I am wondering if 4,5,6, have newer injectors (I think my car had recall in 2012) and that's why the ECU is not responding?

It's not that difficult to physically temporarily disconnect each injector in turn if you want to be sure which one is playing up...
