Wind noise from drivers side window

Hi All,

I been driving this afternoon in my E92 on the dual carraigeway and I can hear a vast amount of wind noise from the drivers side, as if the window is slightly open!

One of the things my dealer had to sort before picking up the car was a window rattle. This was fixed however, having inspected the window closely, it is apparent that the window sits a bit low at the back and the 'BMW' logo is sits slightly lower than the passenger side window.

When opening the door and the window has dropped a bit (as it does on the E92) there is half a cm gap between the seal and window top edge on the noisy window, and just a few mm gap between the seal and the window on the passenger side.

I assume its not been adjusted properly, but can't take it back to the original dealer where i bought it from as it is far away.

As its still under the remainder of the new car warranty my question is - is this likely to be covered under warranty or will they most likely charge me?

You shouldn't have an issue getting that sorted under warranty at any dealer.

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to see if anyone else had any experience of this. Waiting on two dealers who promised to get back to me today, still nothing

Hope you get it sorted.

Some irony as the latest BMW mag has an article on the high quality BMW approved used car plan check. Hah! Maybe if the $tealers actually did the checks in the 1st place.

Well dealer said nothing is wrong. They ended up reprogramming the windows and giving it back to me which did naff all.

Going to take it to another dealer as this did nothing.

Same with me, took it to the local stealers (Barons) they said its normal for the way the car is designed and it will create some wind noise in the cabin. Used the Gumi stuff which made a very small difference but nothing to stop it annoying me, so i just turn the music up when im going above 60 mph! Cant be bothered to take it back to the dealers i bought it from (Sytner High Wycombe) as they are just gonna say the same im sure and they are not local to me.

I'll show it to another dealer again when its next going to be serviced. I'm probably going to do the same and turn the stereo up too (and do the Earthquake SWS-8 upgrade to really hide it)

Hi Fellas, was there no fix yet for this? I have a drivers window doing the same. Does not tuck into the seal as surely as on passenger side. Be interested to find out if a resolution was found.

I had the same problem with mine... When I looked it up online, you can adjust the door latch, ie the piece that's on the car. A couple of screws to take out.. I moved it just a couple of mm in and the problem was solved..

Others have reported that the window angle needed to be adjusted, so you may have to look into that if moving the latch doesn't help

It's not unusual for E92/93 windows to suffer from wind noise. The most usual culprits are:

1. Door not closing correctly. You need to make sure the door is flush with the body.
2. The door seal is faulty. Probably the only remedy is replacement, although some try using some kind of lubricant to help the glass sit properly on the rubber. VW dealers sell stuff meant for the Eos roof seals that may help (it's not cheap).
3. The glass needs adjusting. Not the where it stops and starts, but how high does it go.

Should you tackle the last point, it's very important that you don't lift the glass too high - it may break. A little at a time is the way to do it.

In the forum diy section there is a thread: adjusting e92 door window preload.
