well believe me or not. You can ask your car salman to wave that destination fee off.

1st. they want to sell car. they need to bring that car to the dealership to sell.

2nd You did not ask or request your car to bring to the dealership from germany.

3rd. when you customize your car or pre-order it. YOu have no choice. you need to pay for the destination charge.

I have bargain many time at the dealer either for myself or for my friends or for my family member. about 90% of the time. they will wave it for you because they need to move that out so they can put new car in. Having car in the lot , it will cost them money to park there. No money for them to have car sitting there. They need to move car fast so they have bonuses and profit.

If I say I want $2000 off MSRP out the door not incl. tax, what the dealership does or does not do about these fees is not my concern.

Actual numbers on edmunds for a car with sport/prem/cold/comf/metallic

46950 list, 43200 invoice

Do you want to be quoted an over invoice price, agree to it, only to have the dealership agree and jack the final number up by another $500 by turning his LCD around and showing you MACO and training?

My strategy would be and was to take the 46950, tell them I want $2000 or so off, and go out the door for 44,950 plus tax, no other charges. Whether I finance or pay cash is not of concern upon the agreement of selling price. That comes next as would a trade if there is one. Many people miss that and do a great job negotiating a final price, only to get burned on a trade or financing. The additional packages on delivery day is the final chance for the dealership to recover some more of that hard-negotiated discount.
+1
Its amazing how confused these fees make people.
Decide on a price for a specific car.
Stick to it.
Who cares how the dealer cuts the cake.
The only thing that counts is the final cost.

Right. I don't think you have a dealer remove the actual dest. fee (or TSF & Maco) but you can ask them to discount the car by a corresponding amount and more. Also, if you ask for too much off the front end they can get you at the back end, especially if you're leasing with marked-up acg. fee and MF (though you can try and negotiate those down also). Its a money-moving game.

Here's what many of you fail to realize:

Just because you don't see that you're paying MACO/Traning fee doesn't mean it's not included...

I see this is an old thread that was brought back to life. The bottom line is if a person feels that the charges are legit, basically, they add roughly $400 and change to the price and take away from the discount, thereby adding to the negotiated "x over invoice" price. Instead of $1000 over invoice the buyer is getting say $1450. It's a trump card, kind of like a magician with slight of hand. The simple solution is negotiate an out the door price off list, or reduce the "x over invoice" by $500 when negotiating with the dealer, and when the fees are added, you got what you wanted.

Long story short is the dealers' screens do not match the edmund's invoice price.

+1 smaller market dealers don't usually participate in the group advertising.

The market dictates the profit a dealer can make, just like it does for all of the industries that you work in.If home sales slow down, builders take less profit just to get rid of inventory.Mortgage companies close Home loan Centers( WA MU recently closed over 300 offices). One union painting contractor recently went from 248 painters a day on new construction , to 18 painters and it goes on and on........shop wisely ,but fairly and everyone wins !

destination is charged on every car. Just cuz you don't think you're paying for it doesn't mean you're not. They'll "move" it (so to speak) out of the dealer profit so you get what you want. But there is no way they'll eat the cost. Overall it's the bottom line for the dealer. If they are making X amount off you and if they want to close the deal by you requesting they take it off, they'll do it as long as profit-${destination charge} or profit-${maco charge} or profit-${whatever combo you want off} is > 0. I'm sure this gives you warm fuzzies that you got destination charge removed, but they're still making a profit off you.

Listen up - this is very good advice. Exactly the point I have been trying to get across in a different "what did you pay for" thread on this forum.
