Spare tire storage question
So my E90 LCI came with RFT's and for that reason there is no compartment in the trunk to store a spare tire (donut or any other size). I have recently switched to non rft's and would like to have a spare tire in the car.
It just sucks that BMW made the car like that where they are indirectly forcing you to go the RFT route. Anyone has ever done any modification to the compartment inside the trunk where the spare tire normally is stored? Right now I have the damn thing sitting in my trunk taking up the entire trunk space! Uggghhhhh Help please! |

I originally bought an extra full size wheel/tire to use as spare - took up the entire trunk as you state.
Then I went out and got the compact spare - not optimum, but leaves more room in trunk. That's about the best you are gonna do if you want an actual spare. At least in an E92, there would be no way to modify the trunk floor for a spare as there is too much going on directly beneath the floor as designed. Compact spare is actually for an E60 - but fits our 3 series regardless. There are a couple threads about the correct compact spare to buy. You can get thru Tischer, ECSTuning, BavAutosport, eBay, or in forum classifieds. Price runs up to ~$300 depending on where you get it. I got mine on eBay, new, for $100 shipped... Or you could forgo a spare and carry the Mobility kit made by BMW OEM or Conti (small portable compressor with 'slime' cannister). And if you do carry a spare - don't forget to buy a jack kit also

yeah I just went the compressor and slime route and said screw it.....at least for now anyway. a year has gone by now, knock on wood no issues.
I have a spare that I keep at home, I figure I just need to be able to limp my car home if I get a flat, hopefully i'm able to do that (when I say limp i'm not talking about running on the rim, just that hopefully the slim and compressor can get me home). or else I need to call someone to bring me my jack and spare |
