I ran into a little dilemma this weekend. I was replacing my headlights with a stock halogen headlight unit, and low and behold I have a cut wire. Apparently, this wire was cut by accident? Maybe on purpose because the connector wasn't working? Regardless, the left side is not like this. Whatever the reason for this cut wire, I need to reverse this in order to install stock headlights.

So on this particular side of the car, the cut wire is actually connected directly to one of the halogen bulb sockets, and bypasses this "plug" entirely. I believe it can be fixed if I just connect the wire back together, but what is the best way of doing this because I don't have a lot of wire to work with here as you can see, maybe a half inch at most. Any thoughts?

As an electrician, I would say you should get more wire and a new pin and re-pin that wire. You could get a splice to fit on there but it's not usually recommended.

Okay, so if you could recommend a splice to fit it, could you point me to the right part? I think rewiring this would be very difficult, especially since I haven no idea where that wire goes to ....

You could check out auto zone for some splices. You're gonna need wire strippers as well. Strip some wire off both sides, then crimp the splice on each end. Make sure there is something to keep moisture out too. Such as heat shrink.

The bigger question is WHY was it cut then connected directly to the bulb socket? Someone did that on purpose and I would try to understand why before I do anything.

Personally I don't like to splice in wet and dusty conditions. I'd rather solder for a permanent fix.

soldering and heat shrink should be fine, as long as you know what you are doing

No idea tbh. Maybe there was an issue with the pin in the plug for that wire? Who knows. FWIW, the Spyders installed have lasted 50k miles without a single issue (knock on wood). I'm hoping the pin is fine and I can reconnect via splice or soldering.

Can that whole set of wires be replaced? Where does it connect to the vehicle?

Solder a similar gauge wire to connect them. Insulate it too.
