E90 2007 335i Fish tailing - 110k miles

Hi All,
I am still on my winter set up with 18" rims and snow tires. I was on square set up 225\40 18 all the way around.
However my rear tires needed to be replaced so I replaced them with 255\35\18 as I wanted the staggered look back.

I really have a hard time believing that the new tires are causing the issue. I was getting some louder then usual hump sounds before replacing the tires which now seems to be much less noticeable.

Even when taking slight turns at higher speeds feels like the back is going to go pass me which scares the carp out of me and causes me to adjust starring...

anyway I was thinking about ordering Front M3 components, but now I am thinking I should do the rear first.. any ideas what could be causing this issue? a bad rear end links?

I did check tire pressure which was way to high and I have lowered it which did help a bit but not enough.
(32 front and 35 rear now)
I will double check lug nuts tightness when I get home tonight but other than that I a out of ideas.
I did try to see if the wheels would spin out easy on hard acceleration but they do not and have better traction then the old replaced one...

How about giving us some useful information such as tire brand/model, wheel specs, etc.

Not sure why you want to immediately start throwing parts at the car to fix your your "fishtailing" issue which obviously started after new tires were put on...

The tires are Bridgestone Blizzack ws80 all the way around, just the rear are new
The rims are BMW OEM 18" RIMS style 162, staggered rims.

Just feeling a sloppier sidewall considering you put a 255 on the same rim you were running a 225?

Mold compound still on the tires?

in any case, WS80s are sloppy, you'll certainly feel squirm in the rear.

Rest assured, however, that after a couple break in miles, you'll have understeer with your stagger in steady state cornering.

The rear isn't going anywhere unless you being it around on the throttle, or with an abrupt lift.

255 rear winter tires though? Really? That's not good for snow performance.

well the 225 looked awful on the 8.5 rim as the stokers were 255. People run all seasons tires staggered, I am sure I will be much better off. Thanks for the update though, I really hope you are right. I already put about 80 miles on these and still not getting much better... I will hang in there. Just been having a bad month with my car with water pump and oil filter housing gasket going out. Making me wanna sale it but i love the car.

Probably a combination of a few things. Brand new tires will have less grip until broken in. 255 vs 225 you now have less tire stretch, so more sidewall flex. You also have a wider tire, which isn't ideal for winter/snow. Usually people go narrower for winter tires.

I know 255 is not ideal for snow and to be honest I do not plan to be out there in a severe storm. Bottom line stock car comes with 255, no matter what these are going to be way better than all season tires in the snow. I will be getting 235 in the front before next winter 😀

I will update if traction gets better as soon as I put some more miles on them. Thanks

Just an update, I think the tires are starting to break in or I am getting used to it. It is still freaky to try to go above 80 MPH. I am sure the fact that i am still on original suspension components is not helping. I do plan to refresh it all soon. Thanks!!

New tire rubber will need some time before they break-in. Maybe 100-200 miles?

But I do know going 80mph in my Nokian Winters are not ideal. It may look nice and be on a nice car, but those tires are not for 80mph+ They are a softer rubber, and the odds are the roads aren't in the best conditions, salt, wet, etc.

Keep it under 80. I pump mine up to 36-38 PSI, matching all around.

when I was on square set up my car liked 33 PSI all the way around.
When I do say I hit over 80 MPH that is in good weather conditions and clean roads for a short burst.
are you on staggered set up?

Update, after 500 miles it seems the car is back to normal. However it seems snow tires are very sensitive to tire pressure. I found the ideal setting to be 32psi front and 34 rear with staggered setting and 18 inch wheels. Hopes this info helps other in the future.
