Questions about the midrange, tweeter & crossover

Hi,

As a new owner to the E90 (having driven an E34 535 for several years), I, like others, am appalled at the sound quality of the stock US-spec HiFi system. I can't but help compare with the seventeen year old system in my E34 which runs circles around this one.

In that car, each driver was run off a separate power amp, with the active crossover built into the amp. On the E90, if I understand correctly, there are separate power amps for each subwoofer and for each pair of mid/tweeter. If so, where are the passive crossovers for the mid/tweeter located?

Secondly, if any of you have pulled the stock speakers out of your car and still have them, would you consider selling them? My only reason for this is that I would like to measure the dimensions and perhaps also run them through a set of acoustic measurements. Audio is a hobby of mine and I have the necessary equipment. If you are a trusting soul and would allow me to borrow a pair followed by a prompt return, even better.

Are there any drop-in speakers available? Can the grille be pulled off the midranges without having to take the entire panel off?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Adnan

I just finished my speaker install over the weekend. It was not very difficult at all. I put Infiniti Kappa 42.7i in the rear and DLS PS4 components in the front. I am going to install my SWS-8 subwoofers next weekend. I have the Audiocontrol LC6i converter and 2 amps for the speakers and subs. To make the front speaker install much easier, I used these Scosche rings:

Overall, the sound quality is soooooo much better now! BTW, I did not have Logic 7.

BTW, the crossover for the mid/tweets is inline with the wiring to the tweeter from the mid. It's just a bass-blocker that's soldered in.
