Hey Guys,

I'm about to do an oil change in my modded 335d. The car is currently running an LL-04 5w30 Millers oil. Since it has a downpipe, ergo no dpf, and is chipped to 392 bhp, I have been thinking of putting a more substantial oil to cope with the added strain.

A friend of mine that supposedly is into oil analysis advised me to go with a Miatsu 5w40 oild designed for heavy machinery and trucks -> https://www.mitasuoil.com/en/dieseloil/cj-4sm-5w-40

What do you reckon of the idea?

I can't speak specifically on the d, as I've not see any oil analysis of a heavily modded d, or miatsu in specific.

In general any good quality oil will do. Modding and extra power typically shorten the life span, so really using ll04 should be fine or any good synthetic but I would change it more often than 13k miles. Especially if you run it at full power frequently.

Does it carry the godzilla seal of approval?

Schaeffer, amsoil, and redline all have some really good 5w40 or 5w50 synthetic diesel oils. Next oil change mine getting Schaeffer 5w50.

You gonna run 9001 in 5w50? Do they make that in 5w40?

I run AMSOIL in everything. My D runs smooth with AMSOIL European and doesn't break down.

The 5w50 is in the 9000 family, they also have a 5w40.

I run the 5w50 in my VW race motors, never pounded out a rod bearing at 65psi boost and 6krpm yet.

Several used oil analysis from my car are shown in the thread below. I started using Shell Rotella T 5w-40 after the deletes (been using it for years in my other diesel engines).
