Replacement Bumper
Hey E90 Experts,
Last month, I became the new owner of a 2006 330i. I know this forum is a wealth of information about these cars, so I'm coming here today for a little advice. About two weeks ago, I was rear-ended coming home from the doctor's office. It happened in very heavy traffic, so the person who hit me couldn't have been moving more than 10mph. The impact bent/cracked/deformed the rear bumper cover (as expected) and caused the trunk lid to sit higher than usual. I've since adjusted the trunk lid but I am going to need a new bumper. Currently, my favorite is this M3 style bumper available from ECS Tuning: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...t/e90m3rrbump/ I am also considering an MTech style bumper from Mod Bargains. I can't link to it but it's the first on Google-- search for MTech Style Rear Bumper My car will be completely stock other than the M3 Style/MTech rear bumper. Is there any compelling reason as to why I should go with an OEM replacement instead of the bumpers I linked to above? I understand that there can be fitment issues with aftermarket parts, but I hope I can eliminate most of that by purchasing the bumper from a reputable vendor and installing it myself. My logic is that if I buy, ship, and paint an OEM rear bumper, the cost will be as much if not more than the aftermarket alternative... So why not give the car a little more visual appeal? At this point, I'm pretty confident the insurance claim is going to cover the full cost of any bumper I choose, so I'm open to other options besides the ones I explicitly mentioned. Let me know what you think Max Last edited by max_330i; 05-20-2016 at 12:07 AM.. |

I like the look man. What made you choose the MTech style? Did you consider any others?

I went with an mtech rear as well after getting rear ended a while ago. I used to not like the rear of the car (looked like a honda from far away IMO), but after switching to mtech, I fell in love with it. One thing you'll want to swap out ASAP after going mtech is the exhaust tips. The stock 2.75" tips will look ridiculously small with the mtech. I put on 4" tips and they look gorgeous...
