I have a 335is with a DCT...

When I let the car roll in drive, and gently press the accelerator I hear and feel a thud/clunk sound...it happens in gears 1-3. Only when i lightly press the accelerator when the car is coasting at 1-10 mph

Any idea what this could be?

That's what I was thinking....either that or I heard the "dual clutch flywheel"? had some big issues but I'm not sure if that's OPs model

Mine made clunking noise brand new from the factory. The clunking was minimized by available BMW software update. The software update helped with how the DCT engaged that minimized it.

However, mine did not go away completely till after I broke the drive shaft and had it and the diff replaced.

I am pretty sure if you put the car up on a lift to diagnose there will be a certain amount of questionable "play" when you turn the wheel back and forth between the drive shaft. There is suppose to be no play, not with the DCT.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of trucks with that kind of issue! But it's insanely loud and you can feel it hit when you press on the throttle

Can you give a little more detail please. I'm having same issues although I'm auto. Drive shaft/ propshaft? Or drive shaft/ half shaft? Where did it break exactly? Why diff replacment aswell?

I think what he was suggesting was to prop the car up, maybe if you can take it to a shop and put it on a lift and check the diff make sure there's no play that would cause that kind of noise.

Had any work done recently where driveshaft had to come out ? LSD install, transmission out ?

When bolting the driveshaft back, center support bearing has to be preloaded (moved towards the engine side) before bolting in place. That way it keeps driveshaft from clanking between the gears, especially on upshift.

Had bad clunking right after installing LSD in my car. Didn't know about CSB preload procedure. Was thinking LSD backlash wasn't adjusted correctly , but after some research through other BMW models found this info. Takes some time to get all bottom covers off, braces and exhaust off to get to CSB. Moved it about 1/4 of an in towards the front of the car, that gave just enough preload for the driveshaft. Shifts are smoother than ever. Thought I'll mention. Other than time spent it doesn't cost anything to check.

335is here as well. I get clunking sometimes, but only have noticed it when cold and in regular drive, as the car is downshifting from 2 to 1, or 3 to 2. After warmup, it goes away.

But, it my previous cars (manual), clunking is simply indication of a slacky two-piece driveshaft, which is normal. Clunkiness being the trade off for driveline NVH absorption.
