Hi all,

I recently purchased some D1S bulbs (PHILIPS Ultinon 6000k) for my car, however, one of the bulbs arrived with a broken return wire insulator near the base of the bulb. I have attached pictures of what I am talking about.

I read that a broken or cracked return wire insulator can cause problems with the bulb and drastically reduce the life of the bulb.

Life of bulb will be reduced if insulator broken. The intention of the insulator is to stop high voltage arcs during startup directly from inner wire to return wire. Such archs will eventually kill bulb. http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-hid-bulbs.htm

Can anyone confirm this information or provide any additional information? Also, should I return this bulb for a new one (I'm dealing with a vendor in Hong Kong)?

i believe there is no way of fixing that, you might have to contact to vendor for a replacement...

Its honestly hit or miss. It may end up just being fine however it may end up causing the bulb to misfire and not ignite properly.
