Second Oil Change

Hello all..just curious when most people are doing their second oil change. I got my first at 1200mi. and am now at ~5500mi. I am guessing the time frame between my first and now was about half a year.

Thanks.

P.S. I searched.

Ask your dealer for a free one after one year from the date you picked up the car. You're unlikely to hit the service interval at that point, but BMW pays for an annual oil change. They won't reset the service indicator -- so you then get another free one when you hit that.

I did my 1st after 1200m break-in...then my 2nd at 6500+m....will do a 3rd (before I take it to dealer for 15k service) at around 11500m.

Yes, I know it seems anal, but given my experience with other turbo applications and sludge concerns while cooking the oil during any mileage intervals I think its just wise to take car of the one most important piece of hardware - engine!

besides, its not that expensive if you can do it yourself and it also serves as routine maintenance if you plan on keeping your car for longer than 5 - 7 yrs like I plan. I always keep all my cars for that long cause I enjoy them and drive them like they are supposed to. $60 every 4000 miles is nothing for me to think twice about it....besides, your BMW will love you more for it!

Plus it's fun to work on the car and admire it from a different perspective, i.e., underneath!!!

I also did my first at 1,300 or so after break-in and plan the second in about a thousand miles at 5K. I don't care if it's pointless. This car is my toy, not a daily driver, and I keep my toys in perfect condition...

I took mine in at 1200 miles and just recently at 6200. My SA insists that I am wasting my money.

I wish I could determine what makes sense for the auto transmission. I'm having a hard time believing the lifetime fill concept in terms of maximizing its longevity.
