I was responding to my biz-dev partner who is representing the company that has targeted our organization for partnership/acquisition. We had just exchanged a critical piece of information via slide deck for easy consumption and he was thanking me for sending it so promptly. I looked at the email and almost sent the following:

"No problem, please take care to closely examine the dick I sent you as there is quite a bit of detailed technical information that may be difficult to follow. If you or any of your team have any questions, please call me directly on my wireless phone."

As usual, I hit spell check on the email and it passed. I always take one last read before I send any email and noticed the potentially deal-ending misspelling. If you haven't seen it yet, take another look. Once you've found it place your hands on the keyboard and notice that the e and the i are each activated by your middle finger. If you type quickly, this is an easy mistake to make.

I'm asking everyone now: Tell us any near disasters or actual disasters involving sending email or texts.

Cheers-mk
It's probably happened to most of us, and I have told folks this auto-correct feature might start a war some day let alone cause a business deal to fail. "They said what?" LAUNCH the missiles now!

"I said LUNCH, not LAUNCH!"

I had to TRY to recall an email that a certain higher-up sent out. It was extremely confidential, regarding candidate for local office, and was somehow leaked to press/other candidates. This was an open investigation and criminal charges could have been brought against those who chose to "share" the info.

Needless to say, the recall option in Exchange is worth about 10 pesos at this point.

Same keystroke, opposite hand though.

Banned for stroking with the wrong hand.

Edit: But yeah, he is basically walking around with a brain full of dick, 24/7.

I'm surprised this kind of mistake could 'blow' the deal up. Wouldn't the other guy just laugh it off?

Most in my industry would probably respond with a dirty joke and laugh about it.

These guys are wound up so tight that the first time one of them smiled in the initial meeting his face cracked and a few pieces fell to the table. Unreal.

FTFY...I estimate that going the extra mile will be the only way this looks up.

I've seen numerous spellcheck goofs in my years of servitude (umm, I mean work). Working in the tech world, it's almost always just a keystroke away...

1) After action report/post mortem for a Fortune 100 banking customer had "hard dick" instead of "hard disk" about 4 times in the report. It was noticed days later by someone on our team so they didn't even see it or were too embarrassed to report it?

2) manager at a previous job wrote in an email which CC'd a few higher ups, "you need to insert yourself with Jennifer X" he meant assert yourself. Either way, there was a better way to word it....

Moral of the story here:
Always use grammar check as well as spell check. Spell check will test each word while grammar check will test the sentence/phrase.

And lastly, do we need a thread on goofs during conference calls? I have a ton of those!
