Anyone Parting Out?

Hey guys! Having issues with my '07 328i and the symptoms lead me (and other forum members) to believe that it is an issue with the Crank Case Breather Valve. Since the Crank Case Breather Valve is built INTO the valve cover you need to buy an entirely new valve cover which would run me about ~$400USD....

Just wanted to see if anyone was parting out a N52 328i of around the same age?

Let me know if you can help me out!
Cheers!

Is this the PCV valve?

If yes you may be able to just clean it up and it will be good to go.

On N54 platform you can actually remove the valve. I replaced mine with RobBeck pcv valve.

I did a 3D scan of the oem one that I removed and found it is quite a simple design made of cheap plastic.

All you need to do is give it a healthy cleaning with brake cleaner.

Unfortunately in your case you would have to remove the whole valve cover, however it may be worth it if you're trying to save $$

Yes, it is the PCV Valve! Or I'm hoping that is what it is.. I would rather not have to buy and swap out all of the hoses running to a from. Like you said, with the N52, because it is built into the valve cover, I will have to remove the entire thing and have a look! I did find a site (this one --> https://vanos-bmw.com/valve-cover-n5...mw-11127552281) that sells the membrane to replace if that is what broke on the inside, but it almost looks like these things aren't meant to come apart once they are assembled?

That is kind of why I thought it might make more sense to just swap the entire Valve Cover out! But I gotta get something done quick because my fuel economy is taking a beating and once the car is warmed up and has been on a long drive, it will stall at idle.

However, I don't want to start pulling it apart until I've got new parts to replace it with because I would rather not go through the hassle of pulling off the valve cover twice! Haha

Ok I checked out that site and I see that the actual valve has a rubberized membrane that fails. In that case cleaning anything with brake fluid will not solve your issue.

Looks like you are left with two options. One..replace the whole valve cover, Two...follow the site instructions and replace the valve.

Good luck man

Yes, that's the decision I'm faced with! Definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place! Do I order that membrane, pull the valve cover out, open up the valve to find that membrane in tact? Then maybe it was one of the hoses that failed.

Or do I just bite the bullet and buy a valve cover and hope that it solves the issue. But even with this option there is a chance that it is the hoses and I would need to replace those! So there is a slight possibility that the PVC Valve is functional but it's hoses are not...

I'll be outta commission for a little while doing this!
