Caliper rebuild kit prices

OEM is about US$25 for front kits and US$60 for the rears. Local dealer store (I'm in Calgary) wants CAN$67 and $130. Per wheel!
So. I went to the local parts store. $8 per kit!
Yes? No?

What do you think is wrong with the calipers?

Well, no leaks, but I wanted to paint them, and am a little worried I may damage the seals during the clean-up, especially the rear steel calipers. Fronts in alum are pretty good.

So, there is nothing wrong with your calipers then. Your are just worried about if you make a mistake cleaning the caliper up and you can fix it right away.

It's a nice thought.

I would not fret about the possibility too much of ruining the rubber seals while cleaning the calipers.

Just steer clear of the rubber seals, take your time and use a dremel with a steel wheel. You'll need a about 6-8 of them. So, stock up.

Use G2 paint. It's the best paint on the market.

The hardest part about the caliper rebuild is getting the dust boot on properly. Took me an hour to do 1. It has to be pressed on by something with a very small wall thickness and a diameter slightly larger than the piston. I ended up using a spectracide ant killer cap that I trimmed down a bit.

I did the rebuild because I was getting very uneven wear on new pad/rotor combo on 1 wheel.

I repainted about 6 months before with no issues. Just tape it all up.
