I'm a bit paranoid about expansion tank explosions having lived through 2 in an E46. So I want someway to see it coming. The E46 gauge was really a cold-normal and overheated display. Nothing in between. Can it be done?

Not possible via coding. You can access the hidden menu to display KTemp but I has to be done manually every time you start the car.

It's possible yes, depends on engine. Tool32 is your friend. I haven't tried it, guide is for e60 but I think it'll work. Maybe try it out:

For info, it's confirmed working on:

E90 330i 04 / 2006 Tacho Low
E90 320i 07 / 2005 Combined Low N46 engine
E90 320i 2006 Combined Low N46 engine
E91 325i N52B25 engine

I'm not sure on diesel models...

Also, you may need to use KOMB87 prg for e90.

In addition, if you add motors and change dial, you get red dial rev moving

No, it's for coolant temp. At least for me my '11 E90 seems to run a little hot and I want a way to closely monitor the temp. I'm sure someone could do something similar for oil temp.

Maybe, but I think it will be difficult.

Some people codes it for coolant but could never make the gauge move. It needs more research...

Can you write what you did to make it work? The MPG gauge is utterly useless

I think I have understodd it by now.

We need to alter the following in the codierdaten @ 0x3105

- Scaling values
- ID for the sensor used (to 6F for oiltemp)

..But why not create a nettodat file and let ncs expert calculate the checksumm and write the codierdaten? Why code it with tool32?

EDIT: Does anybody know the ID for the water temperature sensor? I suppose it should be able to use that instead of the oiltempsensor - if we get the scalings right and the ID.

You can use nettodat, yes, much easier.

I think it's not possible to add coolant with coding even nettodat. It would need a suitable function already specified in the KOMBI.

Oil temp is fine though.
