2011 e91 LED or HID headlights ??
I'm planning to increase the quality of the headlights and I'm not sure which way I should go for. HID or LED ? I'm looking for a strong, bright quality light with a good look as well.

I've had both. Here are some points for you:
- LED no coding - LED Instant on/off - LED less heat - HID coding req - HID may need a harness or PWM module to work correctly - HID farther throw than LED ATM I placed my LED's in my high beam and have HID in my low beam projectors. |

First question to ask is what kind of headlights you currently have and what you mean by LED versus HID?
Do you want to slap LEDs or HIDs in halogen housings? Because that is not the way to go if you are looking for improved lighting output. It will increase the lighting for the immediate area in front of the car but it will not throw that light very far. You will also produce annoy glare for oncoming traffic. Same goes for LEDs in HID projector housings. Improper focal point location between the light source and projector/reflector design. Proper LED retrofits are not cost effective yet, not to mention getting LED units to fit into E9x housings. Only proper way to increase light output/performance is a true HID projector retrofit. Either get used OEM xenon/HID housings. Or mod your current headlights with proper HID projectors. FYI, all aftermarket headlights that claim to be HID actually use halogen projectors. Again, focal point is incorrect and you will get poor performance. |

If i were you, i'd get some OEM projector lights and install an HID kit with it. You'll need to probably do some coding for the halos, and to turn off the bulb check. Also get some canbus ballasts.

Ok I found the right bulbs for my car. Lux v2 for halos. However, I'm curious about side amber lights. I want to change it for the looks as the m3 on picture below. 2nd pic is of my Oem amber light.

Ok, so I replaced my Oem halos with lux V2 halos and I love it. Headlights looks a lot better and I got rid off that yellow ugly light. Now I need to decode orange amber lights cause they look ugly to me. What else I can do to increase the look of these headlights ??
Btw. I added 4 pics before, during and after installation. |

The picture of the M3 you provided has customized headlights, most likely from OSS. It is not cheap but they do quality work. You can have the amber corner lights coded out so they only come on when you use the turn signal.
As far as the HID vs LED, HID is the way to go. HID's will produce more glare but they are still somewhat focused. I've seen LED kits that just throw light everywhere and don't have any focal point whatsoever. Though, I feel like an HID in a halogen housing on a BMW is kinda tacky. I had it in my car for a bit but took it out because I felt like a ricer. Currently in the market for OEM projector housings now. You can do a projector retrofit in the halogen housings but I hear that opening our headlights is a real pain in the ass.
