335 e93 e92 e90 power/weight and handling differences?
Coming from 328xi auto and looking to get 335, but have some questions
I know there is a weight difference between different body styles. Will I feel noticeable difference in handling and acceleration/power in 335 e93 vs e92 vs e90? Let's take worth case scenario heavy e93 335 with auto - am I correct that it still should outperform a 6MT 328i (I drove one and I know roughly that base power level) on a straight road or drug strip? Also, suppose 335 I'm looking at needs walnut blasting - will I be able to tell it's sluggish or it will still be way ahead my slow 328 and the only way to tell will be to compare it to a already walnut blasted 335? I'm just asking, because I'm looking into 335 for power and I want to avoid making same mistake twice - buying the wrong car/model in the first place |

I haven't driven an e90 328i but I can tell you this - and not sure if this will help. My buddy has an F30 328i with the N20 and auto trans. When he came to visit he drove my e93 (I have 6MT) he thought it was quicker than his F30. He said he could feel the torque more and overall felt faster and more powerful.

as for the e90 vs the e92, expect almost identical curb weights. the sedan may have slightly better weight distribution. the e93 will be about 400 pounds heavier then the coupe. it is almost as heavy as a 5 series. the weight distribution changes by almost 4% depending on if you have the roof up or down. if you are looking for a satisfying level of performance over your current 328i, avoid the e93 convertible and look for a manual. I also strongly suggest you dont get Xdrive again. a RWD, non convertible, manual 335i will be a worthwhile upgrade over what you have now. otherwise, I wouldnt bother. |
