If you put the secondary first it would make routing significantly easier, but then you'd have what is typically a smaller filter putting in a ton of work, and then sending highly filtered fuel to the OEM filter, which likely doesn't filter out as much as the secondary filter, so the OEM would be effectively useless. The OEM should be a pre-filter thatlets through more stuff, and the secondary the final filter which gets every little thing out of the fuel.

Page 4, It looks like the 42533 would be the system of a choise, but your filter looks way taller!( Or you used metric 42050? Im so frustrated right now, it seems that all information about few systems that iv search including Stanadyne is TOP SECRET, no pics or anything, ive searched Donaldson and Cat My parameters are: 2 Micron filtering See through Bowl *Readily available in US/Canada (USA made?) Smallest design with smaller filter (smaller unit all together) If anyone can recomend me a decent brand that would be great! |

You can also get heating element options, and lift pump options, etc. I use the 6 inch filters as there's more media surface area, and should give longer service life and less pressure drop for a given flow for a given filtration level (although I have not directly measured this). The FM100 is rated for a max of 80 lb/hr, which at ~7 lb/gal -> ~560 lb/hr. I'm not exactly sure on the specific conditions they use to find their "max" value, but 560 lb/hr is a lot of fuel.

Can anyone please identify SUPPLY and RETURN lines from the following picture!?
It really looks like it is 5 - 15 hose with 14 connecting to the output of FUEL filter!??? EDIT: TDI, which heater do you have (im asuming regular TOP port mount) Can you elaborate if that thing there is necessary!? Im thinking to go that route just because we have tems up to -40C in the winter once in a while and stock heater might not be sufficient enough for those cold starts! It only preheats it during coldstarts right? Im sorry for not being educated, cant really find any thread about secondary on our cars! ![]() |

Thank you YOZH, so my assumption was correct the hose with rubber bulge #18 in my picture is a return line, also it is a bit bigger then the other one, i guess to have a very unrestricted flow back to the tank!

I'm a former TDI guy, a popular filter was the CAT 2 micron filter. Would that provide sufficient flow properties? Additionally, if water separation is a priority for our cars, there is the Donaldson 3 micron filter/water separator. It can have a clear water bowl as well.
