Standard shift knob vs. short

Okay boys and girls.

I am fairly new here but I browse the photos/classifieds/regionals and every other nook of this forum daily.

I have seen so many awesome cars with amazing mods. What baffles me is that so many people run that school bus length OEM shift knob. . . .

I came out of an A4 and in to my e90. The first thing I had to do was change the knob . . . it was driving me nuts.

So. . . in a nut shell spend $100 get the short knob and boot and you will not regret it. It is seriously a night and day difference.

Yeah of course some folks have done it. Not at all tooting my own horn as the first TTG.

I am merely stating my opinion on what I see throughout the forum.

I think people commonly do this but just don't list it as one of their mods. No idea why?

Its the first thing I put on my car. not only is the OEM knob taller, but it has no weight whatsoever. I hate it.

Couldnt agree more, its like driving with a different box! In fact I am surprised with BMW dont make an effort to on the sport packs/version to improve the shift knob.

Just installed the M Shift knob and M ebrake...

In my opinion it just doesn't feel sporty at all with that tall knob. For me switching to the shorter made a huge difference - just feels right.

Does anyone know if the tall shifter can be modified to make them smaller as I've been unable to find them in the UK....Or that could just be me not looking properly.

Can't you just order from the U.S. and have it shipped?

I think you'd be hard pressed to modify the stock one - but then again I'm not good at that stuff so it could be just me.

Yeah i guess i could but i've had a few things go missing in the past from ordering overseas.

Although it seems the sport shifters are also heavier too....If i can actually manage to get the shifter off i'll see if it can be modified.

It can't be too hard to modify and weight it.

Then again i could just stop being a dick and buy one.
