'07 335i w/ 24k miles
I found an '07 335i with 24k miles at a local dealership. No sport package.
They are asking $16k OTD. They just got the car from auction and it's in need of an ABS module; which is in the process of being replaced. The mileage was obviously attractive, but I suppose the flip side is that all of the typical issues will not have been addressed. I'm on the fence about this one. If anyone has thoughts, I'd appreciate it. |

Be prepared for maintenance, especially if mileage is that low and has not had any things changed on it. I bought my 2008 335i e92 with 66k kms in middle of 2015 which is around 40k miles. Have easily spent over 5K in maintenance in the first 6 months of ownership.
HPFP, leaky injectors, walnut blast, spark plugs, ignition coils, valve cover gasket, OFHG, water pump and thermostat, radiator hoses, expansion tank, boost solenoids. Just to name a few. |

It's going to vary a lot by car based on how it was maintained, stored, why the mileage is so low, etc. At such a low mileage that car is averaging ~2400 miles/yr, so whats the reason for it being so low? Weekend car, short commute, or did it sit for a long time? If it sat for a long time in storage, are there leaks from seals drying out? If it was a short commute, did the car have enough time to warm up to ideal operating temperatures? Best recommendation would be to get a good BMW PPI or have a respected Indy shop give the car an inspection.
My car has been the opposite of SE7EN335's experience - '07 335i e92 bought last summer with only 38k miles. The last owner had a very short commute to work, but had awesome service records and it was extremely clean. I haven't had to address anything yet, outside of an oil change, and have put around 10k miles on it since July; my shop said they went through all of the usual trouble spots on mine and found no issues yet, so (knock on wood) mine has been very reliable.

I would want a 2009/2010 year. Perhaps from the known issues early on were addressed By BMW. Just a my sense, no facts for this.

Don't forget about the wealthy Florida Snow Birds; who's really only hear for a couple / few months out of the year ... their cars have super low miles. From what I've seen, clean Bimmers with low miles aren't out of the question.
Watch out for the dreaded "lifter tap" from the low mileage ones before late '08. BMW contributes the tap to short commutes; that do not let the car warm up enough during its "break-in" stage. I picked up my '07 328i from a dealership with 29k this past fall. The car is a local area FL car which had 2 owners prior to me, each for about the same number of years. The CarFax showed only an oil change in NY @ a dealership ... and ownership transfers (the second wasn't registered only a sticker in the door jam). The car's interior is super clean ... you can tell it spent it's life garaged. So far I've had to torque down the valve cover bolts, due to a suspected oil leak from there ... after I tightened them a bit ... the leak seems to have been abated. When I have my 330 - 3IM installed, I'll have the shop check out the leak a bit better. |
