Edit: I would still check to make sure your plugs are torqued to spec and not finger tight.

When I was still running the JB4, I changed the spark plugs and the same exact thing happened to me. New coils was the solution to my problem and I replaced them all. Amazon had the best price for the delphi coils if you can wait.

Just swap the coil on #5 with a different cylinder. If the misfire follows to the new cylinder then you know it is a bad coil.

The thing is the misfire code only shows when the engine goes into limp mode and the cel comes on. Not when it is just idling. Not sure if there is anything to that and its maybe a false positive?

Just an update if anyone cares... took it to a local shop today ($150) and was told it was a major vacuum leak due to a cracked valve cover as a result of the car being over boosted by the tuner.

So this is what they said in their diagnostic report, they didnt try and sell me on the job and told me to take it to BMW as they knew I was under warranty:
Test drive with equipment connected to experience problem and population error data. Found codes 387f set for power management close circuit current violation, 2e4c set for exhaust gas flap and 321d set for small evap system leak. TEst to find that problem appears to be mechanical & not electrical. Found fuel trim at normal around +-2% however when oil fill cap removed fuel trims dropped to -20% indicating a large internal vacuum leak. It is not uncommon for theses vehicles to have failed valve covers that cause a large vacuum leak inside engine. |

I think you should change the subject of your post to "misfires after swapping plugs and coils" since the JB4 isn't even on the car. Leaking valve cover gaskets / covers are pretty common. Can't be related to JB4 as it would not have any affect on valve cover.
You may want to find another shop ![]() Mike |

Haven't been overly impressed with the customer service either as I was basically told to get stuffed and go see a mechanic. The advice from Terry & you has basically been some parameter adjustments in the JB4 software which if you had listened to what I said were no longer important as the car now does not run properly with the jb4 removed. I've received zero tangible mechanical advice at all. If replacing the spark plugs caused all of this, please tell me why.. I only swapped one coil. Last edited by KF335i; 06-08-2017 at 10:16 PM.. |
