I have a 2011 335i coupe M Sport. I am the original owner and it has 62k miles. It is a weekend car at this point. I put less than 500 miles/mo on the car currently.

Is there a "best" time to sell? Before 75k miles? Before 100k miles?

Are there any expensive services I need to worry about? Clutch is still good. Brakes are good. Has brand new rear Michelin PSS. The fronts could probably use a change in 5k miles.

the "best time" is now, the car is only going to depreciate in value.

I'm in the same dilemma, I have spent so much money modding it but now I want something new. In Canada they have dropped like a rock lately, I have a mint 2009 with 72KM not miles and BMW dealer is offering me 12k-14K for a trade in. That's around 9K-10K USD... Pathetic To Match the style and performance I need to spend 50k-80K on a car. I guess the online issues people complain about have killed the value. Sucks as I want to drive something new because I love cars but it just isn't making sense. Good Luck with your choice as you probably wont find a better car for the money.. and if you just want to sell and keep the money , again you may miss that weekend cruise that you can do now but wont if you sell.

Sell sooner than later.....no better time than the present.
Your car is a depreciating asset and in all likelihood will continue to plummet in value.
So sell sell sell

As mentioned the BMW resale market has dropped recently, but it is Summer time ... people are busy spending their money on vacations, boats, RV's and the like ... and soon to come back-to-school shopping. Unless you have a convertable, people are not thinking about purchasing cars as much. I regularly track my vehicles resale values (for nothing more than my own curiosity) ... I find early Fall and early-mid Spring to be good times of the year to sell.

Regarding how many miles: 75K or 100K ... it seems that more issues arise in between those mile marks, but that doesn't mean they will.

Since you car is already more than 5 model years old ... mileage comes into play more than year (1 extra year isn't going to make or break your resale). With the low amount of miles you are currently doing ... you really have time to wait a bit. But this is a BMW we're writing about ... with that, an expensive repair can present itself anytime at any mile.

I'd say that the within the next 3k - 5k miles, as a 65k - 67k mile 335 sounds more reliable than a 75k mile 335. Plus some people specifically look for lower mile BMW's so the closer you are to 50k the better ... plus there's a lot more 335's out there with over 75k miles ... so with that, it's best to be lower IMO.

Right on. Totally understand.

Regarding what to expect ... again anything at any time. Heck my 328i (330 tuned) I've already replaced my starter and needs a valve cover gasket and only has 38k miles ... got it at just over 29k miles ... replaced my starter at 36k, needed a VCG prior to that at about 34k but am holding out for a bit but doing it soon, just replaced rear window actuator at 38k)

The biggest thing the closer you are to 90k-100k miles for a 335 is turbos. When one starts to go, your resale will plummet. Since it's best to replace both turbos which is about $2k plus for installed "used" ones. It can be 2-3 times that amount or more for "new" turbos installed depending on indy or dealership repair.

Also ... water pump, thermostat, starter, injectors, sensors, and various gaskets (oil pan gaskets seem to be one that pops up a lot) ...

Basically ... if you're not keeping it for the long haul ... sell it as soon as you see the market rebound a bit. Personally I'd do eBay over Craigslist. If you're looking to parlay it into another car, trade might be a good option. It's not just any 335 ... it's an M-Sport which carries a bit more cache. It's got low enough miles that a dealer who moves it's fair share of "used" sports cars will give you top dollar as a trade, perhaps close to the lower end of a person-to person sale. Don't bother with CarMax ... they'll just low-ball you.

As for when to sell ... I'd say revisit the idea towards the end of September or beginning of October and give it until the beginning of November to sell. If not, primarily park it ... drive it a bit less than you already do, but still drive it ... cars hate being parked for too long. Then try again the very beginning of tax return season.

Definitely put new tires on the front before you sell it, but not right when you list it, they'll look a bit better to the eye with some miles on them. It will look better to buyers knowing it has "newer" tires on the front. Putting on new tires then selling right it might make someone wonder if you upkeep the car regularly ... or just do stuff when you have to.

Before 100k because it becomes much more difficult to get financing after. Time of year best time is spring.
