BMW hifi option 676 question

Hi,

I'm a bit of an audiophile and long ago in my younger days I was a high-end installer for ten years (just to say I've got a good ear). I've been searching the board here but I'm still stumped, and my question is this:

I had a 2007 E92 328 that got totalled recently , so I just bought a 2011 E90 328 to replace it. Both cars came equipped with option 676 audio system, but this car sounds nothing like the E92. The E92's stereo was warm and had a ton of headroom. This one is bright and harsh at higher volume. It sounds low-fi and compressed and has way too much mid. It can't be the same system? Were there options to this system's components I'm not aware of, or did something change between these models for this option code? Thanks in advance for any replies.

In the 2010 and first half or 2011 676 was not the lowest level of
stereo you could have got the base system with no amp. If there
are no tweeters in the front doors then this is and indication of that.
Also when they reinstituted the 676 option they used what appear to be
a different amp though it was specked the same. The old pre 2010 amp
was black and the post 2011.5 amp was silver if you have it.
There was a lot of deconntenting that went on in 2010.

Best solution by a Technic Hi Fi Harness and a Amp or Amp processor. I had the Hi Fi in an 06 an it was pretty mediocre. If you turned it up at all it fell right apart.

Better look at one of the free BMW online vin checkers and see if you really have option 676.

Thanks! I ran the vin checkers before, when trying to diagnose the issue and they both have that option code listed. My E90 does have tweeters and is 1/11 production, so I'm thinking I may have the later amp. I'm gonna check it out.

I think the post 2011 HK amp is 420 Watts vs 320 watts of the earlier version.

Original amp is 4x25 and 2x40 amps per channel is what counts

that adds up to 180 this is Hi Fi not Logic 7.

Oh my. I bet that's it. I literally told my wife that the old one sounded like an Alpine head unit does to me. The old one had a dead display, this one doesn't. I was thinking that's more of an age thing but maybe not. I'll go digging for the amp soon and see what's there first.

The radio hasn't changed much.
They added HD in the US that is about it.
