Turbo?

Searched forum and found no answer. Back in 1993 or so, mazda rx-7 turbos were having serious engine issues. I recall reading somewhere that it was important to let a turbo-charged motor idle for about one minute before shutting down. Can anyone add any input and if the 335i should idle for a minute before shut down. Thanks.

The 335i has no such problem as the turbos are cooled automatically after shutdown of the engine.

I was told something similar when I asked about having to let the car idle after being driven. However, I still plan to do so if I've just run the hell out of it. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

You nailed it, man. Modern turbos don't need to be left running, hence no need for a turbo timer.

Ya Ive asked about that too, and there is no need to worry but you should let the engine warm up before running it hard. I have made that mistake a couple of times (late for work)

They have issues the minute you turn the key. I can't tell you how unreliable my friends '93 RX7 is.

Not totally true. Yes this does happen but its the water pump that stays on, not the oil pump. SO, oil stays inside the turbine and cokes if it is hot enough. This is only necessary after a really hard run or a stint on the track but after either of those activities I definitely advise letting your engine idle for a minute or so before shutdown to let the oil circulate a bit. Harder the run = longer the idle before shutdown.

x2
but thats y they invented Turbo timers so u can leave them idle. its all about that 13b motor ur running thats the problem. search Apex seals... and then grab a box of issuses. lol they r amazing cars. i have a friend that runs a shop just building them all day. and one day i will for sh!ts and giggles but good luck on it and if u have any questions let me know...
