That's a pretty cool looking dash! I guess it's about time since Audi has been doing this for a while now. I personally like the analog tach myself despite this whole new digital cluster being cool.

I'll need to see what it can do before making any judgements. Hopefully it does more than just show your position in an unlabeled, travel direction oriented 2D map. I liked the digital cluster in the 6/7-Series, at least in COMFORT setting where it looked like a traditional cluster with the added ability to show entertainment and nav info. Based solely on these few photos this looks much less visually interesting, so hopefully it looks more special in actual use.

I much prefer the center display up in my face holding the extra info, and keeping the instrument cluster simple as BMWs current generation.
Actually the Peugeot I-Cockpit is far more intuitive than the Audi digital interface. Have not tried the new UBX platform from Mercedes-Benz which begins its roll-out from the new A-Klasse.
BMW iDrive is the industry standard. The new series of iDrive upgrade maintains on that benchmark. Updating and introducing new elements aimed at further simplicity and perfection.

Just waiting for the day they include an LCD panel in dash and sell skins / designs through the connected drive store. Or better yet, rent them to you.... Monthly!

does this mean you can choose to display the old clusters with gauges?

Make the digital gauge more useful.

Now that the gauges are going digital, they could make the tach more useful:

1. Show what the RPM would be if downshifted or upshifted by 1 gear
2. Use widths to show the torque at particular RPM bands.

Is the redesigned dash, "OS 7.0", the same thing as iDrive 7.0?

Yes, it is a 3er. These new digital gauges will be fitted to the new 3er along with the new 8er.

Also... not talked about is there are some IR sensors at the top of the instrument panel to watch the driver's eyes for drowsiness and some other new features offered in this premium segment.

This instrument cluster looks really great in real life. The pictures doesn't really show the real thing. I saw it earlier today when I attended a small private VIP event. And those cars also hade the pictures of the 5 series so it is not the new 3 series. I had to leave my phone by the door when I entered the room so no pictures.

I dig it.

Digital is the way of the future. If done right, BMW digital can preserve tradition and integrate it with progress.

Now, to completely contradict myself.

Don't get rid of manual transmissions!!!
