N55 First spark plug change
Hey guys,
So going through my service records for my e90 n55 I don't see anywhere it says that the spark plugs have been changed, its currently sitting at 76k miles. What is the recommended mileage for the first change of spark plugs? Thanks. |

Recommended mileage is probably 100K, however most of the people on this forum will tell you to do it far earlier. The N55 has fewer issue with oil contamination of the valves / spark plugs than the N54, due to the better PCV system, but I would still do a plug changes every 50-60K miles.

Get the Bosch ones. They are OEM. Double Platinum and don’t gap them because they are already pre-gapped at .08. That’s for the 2013 BMW 335i N55 specks. I think they N54 wants it at .022 and if you spark plugs don’t. One gapped. Then I would gap them. GL

I'm in the same boat here. Looking to get the NGK 5992 (95770) 1-step colder spark plugs. I'll be FBO + tune when I get these installed. Question, when you buy spark plugs, do you have to install them right away or can you leave them sitting in your garage for say... 1-2 months?

My biggest negative about buying parts and then not using them right away is that if you accidentally get the wrong part, your 30-90 day window to return them expires before you get around to using them.

I'm at about 74k miles, would you recommend changing the ignition coils along with the spark plugs?

The N54 has a completely different fuel injector and oil separator system, and because of problems with these two systems, you'll hear N54 owners discuss needing to replace coils, injectors, etc...
