The CarFax starts at 6000 miles for a car I'm looking at

Looking to buy a used BMW. The carfax on it starts at 6000 miles. What is the reason for this?

What do you mean by 'starts' @ 6,000 miles. Need more info to give an accurate answer, but my first guess is it was driven as a demo by the originating dealer.

Yep, if that's the first recorded title, it was likely a demo car. Now it depends on how you feel about soft vs hard break ins.

Take the VIN to BMW dealer and see if they'll give you a service history.
