Can't watch the video.

I assume this is the new RS6. Avant or sedan?

This wasn't the result I was expecting, the M5 and the E63 (both in estate form) are a little to close in acceleration for comfort. Either the SMG is making all the difference or the big RS6 is a lot heavier than Audi are saying.

Apart from that the RS6 was the quickest on the track which is a really surprise, where did that result come from.

For 80hp over the M5 and E63, the RS6 did not perform that great
I want to see sedan vs sedan.

Just watched the video (didn't understand a word of it ) but you didn't really need to in any case. Watch the pictures was enough to see that the RS6 has extremely good body control compared to the others.

You don't need that much power in a wagon. Period. It's a complete waste.

I'm tired of these hp wars. When will we start seeing some sort of diet war going on?

Audi ups the power on their AWD cars so that it can compete with the current competition, since awd drains some power compared to the E63 and the M5's RWD drivetrain.

The 40/60 tq split on the RS6 helps the audi with its front bias weight so it'll be more neutral than understeer in the turns.

This outcome is all but surprising.

You'll probably never see it in Luxury sports cars. Customers always want more features, safety and luxury.

That's where I disagree. You shouldn't have a DD that's crappy and a nice weekend car. Drive the good car all the time if it's street legal and you don't haul something every day. Even so, the point of the wagon is exactly the same as the point of the sedan, go really damn fast, except in wagon form you have even more practicality and the sick sleeper factor.

You need it in a DD wagon for the same reason you need it in a Ferrari, to go fast. Driving a fast car every day > driving a fast car sometimes.

I think the RS6 is a beast. Having that much power and great handling would always be a great thing. It also seems to be more effecient compared to it's rivals.

BUT yeah I think that the RS6 and cars in general are getting too heavy. We should be focusing on emissions and weight etc.

Also, the RS6 costs a lot more than the M5 yet isnt that much faster from the info we have SO FAR. Maybe you have to drive it to feel the difference? Tiff Needel said M5 is like the Maclaren F1 and the RS6 is like the Veyron! and he was talking about the power delivery, handling etc.

About DDs, I think you are right. You get the impression that 580bhp is "too much" for a car in that class. But then again I know so many people that have M5s for example as DDs. Most people who have M5s as DDs dont use the car to it's full performance.

FirstClass and HKS:

Both valid points. I must say that there is truth to what you both are saying. If you're willing to have a car that can be a DD and a "fun time" car, then I guess that's all perfectly reasonable. Still, my point isn't so much about how much fast these cars go, or their performance capabilities; it's the fact that the trend is to add weight and power. Why not just maintain current power outputs and find ways to pare down the weight? You know? Reading what you guys posted did make me realize that I do enjoy these types of cars (M3, M5, RS6, etc). I still think that they should pursue a different means of reaching the same goals though. Just my .02.

+1

I'm with you there. I think it's unacceptable for the RS6 to weigh so much. Audi should focus on losing weight. The RS6 wouldnt need such a monster of an engine if it weighed less.
