I just got an extended warranty through Sewell SAAB, Plano TX for my 2006 330i (I actually bought it from them). The warranty was $2300.00 for 6y / 75000 miles (I don’t drive a lot), $0 deductible and I can take it to any BMW service department. I have 21 000 on my 330i, which still has the original warranty till 1/27/2010. I was considering cancelling my Platinum Warranty from Sewell and getting a BMW CPO. The only difference is that CPO has $50.00 deductable. Just to clarify these are the same warranties that Sewell offers their Lexus owners. I got a quote from one BMW dealer for about the same amount but I was reading some people get them for waaayyyy cheap (900.00).

My qs is if you have an extended warranty who do you use and how much did you pay for it (please specify the coverage)?

335 vert 6yr/100k $1400 full maintenance in June 2007. Purchased at signing at BMW dealership. Some folks get their warranty online from http://www.twinkidneygrill.com/maint.html but i decided to buy at the dealership because I like my sales, finance, and service adviser there. Well worth it because I take it in for the littlest things. =)P Good luck.

You can´t get your own car covered as a CPO - the dealer would have to buy the car and then sell it to you again.

Dealerships do have BMW extended warranties however. They are similar to CPO but not exactly the same thing (primarily due to the lack of an initial inspection for the extended warranty).

Thanks but you are talking about the maintenance (which covers oil changes, wipers, etc) and I was asking about the extended warranty (change of brakes, engine problems, suspension etc). They are two different things. I used to have a 325, which I bought at a dealership and got the maintenance program for $1295. The extended warranty costs more...

I'm confused is that 6 years from time of purchase? That would only give you an additional 2 years and 25k miles than factory warranty. BMW extended warranty is 2 extra years and 50k miles. Maybe I'm misunderstanding that, but that ain't worth 2300. In my opinion, don't buy the warranty until you are closer to your factory warranty running out. Then you will have a better idea of what kind of problems your car might run into. If you have no problems, then you might feel safe for 2 more years, or you might even sell the car, where you won't recoup the money from the warranty.

This is a good idea. I am canceling it.

Just called a couple of BMW Dealers and they both offered me two different warranties, both 3rd parties since I am not the original owner of the vehicle. They assured me however that they sell these all the time and there both honor claims from certified BMW service departments.

1) The first one is if i purchased the warranty before my original warranty expires in 2010 and the vehicle still has less than 40,000 they are offering 4year 50,000 from the day i purchased with $0 deductable for 3337.00 or with $100.00 deductable for $3137.00.

2) The second one is if I purchased the warranty before I have 24K the I have 6 year 100,000 from the day the insurance was bought for 2850
($200.00) deductable or 3166 ( $50.00) deductable.

I am going to continue searching for a cheaper and better insurance but at this point I am canceling the other one since it only gives me 2 years of coverage. I hate peer pressure - I made the wrong decision. Hopefully it is not too late to get 100% back.

I was thinking about getting extended warranty too, even though I have on 08 335, I will hit 50,000 in 2 years easily...

Being the original owner and before the BMW warranty runs out, what do they normally charge for the additional 50,000 miles, I heard it was 2650?
Is it something that is negotiable and is it worth it if I plan on keeping the car to 80,000 or 90,000 miles??

I guess that could be the cost for one turbo or fuel pump or who knows what.... guess it's a matter of gambling or not eh?

Spot on. We all accept insurance because we're obligated by DMV to purchase it. But marketers sure did create various plans predicated upon the notion that many people cannot relate to marginal benefit v. cost, and prefer peace of mind at all cost. Tiered rewards systems, buy 5 get 3/4 free when you purchase a 6th within 30 days outside the 5 mile metro area and not on Sundays except in Bergen county. Marketing is becoming quite creative and lucrative because it does seem when a consumer can't understand something, they open up the checkbook, provided you can pitch a per month cost. But as we are finding, even Americans are having a hard time spending their way out of the current predicament.

The warranty is calculated from the time the car was purchased.

I have a 335i convertible. If you ever watched the top on an E93 operate you will realize that you would not want to own one without a warranty in place. I was told by a Lexus dealer that the retractable hardtop on the SC430 (which is simpler than the BMW top) cost $15,000 to replace.

The price of the warranty goes up as the car ages. In other words if you wait untill the original warranty has almost expired the extended will cost you more than if you purchased it while the car was new.

Thw whole idea of insurance is that you probably won't need it. That is why the insurance company will fix a $15,000 retractable hardtop on a policy that they charged $3,000 for. The sold the policy to a lot of other owners who will never put in a claim.

I am new to BMW, as I was a long time VW driver and know how much value an extended warranty can be in the long run. Obviously, I am hoping I will not need to use it as extensively as when I owned VWs; however, I know little Gremlins come with German engineering and repairs can be costly.

I chose Warranty Directs Luxury Care coverage for 4yr/100m (current mileage about 36K) since it included airbags/bluetooth phone coverage with $100 deductible. I paid $3,029. Pricey, but they seemed to be the most comprehensive with a very solid reputation online/in forums. I purchased 31 March because I read that their rates on European cars were going up 1 April. If I bought the same coverage today, it costs over $1,400 more. So, I am glad that I saved a little $$ and the peace of mind is worth it IMHO. I could lose out, but then I could make out and have the warranty pay for itself ($3K goes fast for dealer repairs)--I rolled the dice, time will tell.

IMO you overpaid...

BMW's warranty will cost you a little less, no deductible, and it's 6yr 100k

and it covers everything the standard waranty covers....

Since your warranty expires in Jan 2010 you have roughly 19 months left. Why not put $100 away every month, that will give you $1900 for repairs. When your original warranty is up just add the $3000 to your repair fund that you were going to use to by the warranty, $4900 is not a bad chunk of change to keep just in case. If you don't use it for repairs then it is still your money, if you have an extended warranty and don't use it then it is money lost. Also if you are in the habit of putting the $100 away for your car fund, when you by another car in the future you already have a down payment to go with your trade in.
