Which are better.. NGK Iridium IX or Laser Platinum?
Getting ready to do a top side maintenance (VCG, plugs and possibly coils) and trying to figure out which ones are better.
Thanks in advance..... |

I'm sure nobody knows because you are supposed to change the plugs so seldom that you do not have the time to go through many different brands over the effective lifetime of the car. And that's assuming there is any difference between the two. I suspect that they perform just as good as one another, and any report of the contrary are from people comparing worn plugs with new plugs.

Well, I kept on searching last night and trying to find an answer from NGK is sort of an issue. I found 2 NGK websites that give 3 different plugs for a 2007 N52 engine....
Laser Platinum PLZFR6A-11S * # 5987 .044 Iridium IX LFR6AIX-11 6619 .044 NGK 6619 LFR6AIX-11 IX Iridium Plug SKU: #LFR6AIX-11 ITEM: #NGK6619 NGK 1208 ILZFR6D11 Laser Iridium Plug SKU: #ILZFR6D11 ITEM: #NGK1208 Now on the second website it states that the 6619 does not meet OEM standards. In other words the Iridium IX is out. That leaves the Laser Platinum and the Laser Iridium. I've sent an email to NGK techinical to see if they will tell me..... |

And the answer back from NGK.....
Hello, For your 2007 BMW 328XI the greatest service life and performance will be provided by the Laser Iridium stock number 1208. The laser Iridium plug features an iridium center electrode with a platinum tipped ground electrode, this provides a lower voltage requirement to fire and results in greater ignition performance. The "platinum" version might last longer, but what difference does it make if both will go ~100k miles without issue anyway. Flip a coin OP. That, or just go with the cheaper version, save the ~$6 total, and buy yourself a milkshake with the savings lol |
